Who is Shawn Trujillo?
A hairstylist and fitness lover, Shawn Trujillo became The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City's newest Househusband in Season 4.
According to his Instagram bio, he's all about mindset, fitness (he's always posting snaps from the gym), and business — plus his family, of course.
What does Shawn Trujillo do for work?
Shawn is a hairdresser and, with Angie, the founder of Lunatic Fringe Salons, a group of 10 salons with locations in Utah, Idaho, and Ohio.
"Lunatic Fringe Salon was founded in 1999 by two young hairdressers, Shawn Trujillo, and Angie Katsanevas. The couple started their journey in a 700 square foot salon in Salt Lake City," reads the business's website. "After many years of working in salons, the partners knew it was time to start a salon that shared their vision. They dreamed their salon would be filled with passionate and innovative team members."
Shawn also owns cosmetology school Paul Mitchell The School in Salt Lake City.
How did Angie Katsanevas and Shawn Trujillo meet?
According to Angie, the pair met when she was assisting in a hair salon at 19 years old.
"I see this hot guy with huge muscles blow drying hair, and I thought 'I've got to get to know this guy.' Good looking, muscles, and he could do my hair? It was love at first sight," explained Angie in Season 4, Episode 2. "30 years later, here we are."
When did Angie Katsanevas and Shawn Trujillo get married?
Angie and Shawn tied the knot in 1999.
"Science says choosing our mate is not left to blind chance. Our mate choice is based on certain qualities to create the perfect offspring. As a wild 21 year old girl, I was intuitively choosing the future father of my daughter," wrote Angie on Instagram in June 2021. "He was handsome, strong, determined, focused, competitive, integral, with big muscles, big goals and big dreams. He wanted to be the best at everything he did. And when he became a father, he did just that."
Who is Angie Katsanevas and Shawn Trujillo's daughter Elektra?
Shawn and Angie share one child: Their daughter Elektra. In a May 2023 Instagram post, Shawn called their equestrian daughter his "little dream come true."
Angie also loves to talk about how good of a dad Shawn is.
"Shawn has been by my side since Elektra’s first breath and every step of the way thereafter. His presence has shaped the amazing young lady she is and continues to become," she wrote in a Father's Day Instagram post in June 2023.
What have Angie Katsanevas and Shawn Trujillo said about the rumors about their marriage?
During Season 4, Episode 5, a number of the ‘Wives talked about “rumors and nastiness” they’d supposedly heard about Angie and Shawn’s relationship. When Angie brought up the situation to Shawn, he was immediately upset — especially when thinking about how their daughter, Elektra, would be affected by falsehoods about his supposed actions.
“Gay, straight, whatever — it’s the adultery part that’s bad. Elektra’s going to hear about this,” said Shawn while crying in Episode 6. “It kills me to think that she would ever think I would do something like this.”
While appearing on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in October 2023, the couple discussed the situation and host Andy Cohen asked Shawn about his reaction to the rumors directly.
"For me, it's not a gay-straight thing, it's an infidelity thing for me," Shawn said of why he found the rumors about their relationship so upsetting. "We love our gay community, we've been embedded in it for 30 years now just based on what we do for our business."
“I'll just take the hits," he added, noting he was on the show to support Angie.
During the Season 4 reunion, the cast revisited the rumors and Angie noted that she and Shawn are currently doing great.
She also said they were hurt in the short-term by the rumors because they'd never gotten that kind of sustained negative feedback.
“I think the big thing is that there’s a couple weeks in there where you’re hearing about it on the internet, hearing about it in your business, because someone felt that they should drop that on national television,” she said. “Thirty years ago, when Shawn and I first met, people would say, ‘Oh that guy’s hot’ or ‘He has nice legs’ while he was doing hair. ‘Is he gay?’ ‘No, that’s his wife over there.’ Once it was established that we were a couple in Salt Lake City, it wasn’t brought up.”
According to Angie, the rumors only started in earnest when Monica Garcia entered the picture.
“To have this suddenly [happen], 30 years later, 'men bragging about the sex,' 'Shawn f-cks men'?" she noted derisively. "This had never come up ‘til this rat came out of the sewer. And here it is.”
