Andy Cohen Shares the Best Update on Wacha (PICS)
The Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen host “saw an old friend,” and he has the heart-melting pics from the reunion to prove it.
Andy Cohen just got a big, loving lick from someone close to his heart. The Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen host had to re-home his beagle-foxhound Wacha in 2020 (more on that later), but distance definitely made the heart grow fonder in this case.
Now, Wacha has a new home, but some things never change. Andy and Wacha still love each other very much, and their affection was on cute-and-cuddly display during a recent reunion between the two of them.
Andy Cohen reunites with Wacha
In a June 14 Instagram post, Andy shared pictures that showed him reuniting with his four-legged love. “Saw an old friend yesterday,” he captioned the post. “It was heaven.”
The accompanying photos showed Wacha and Andy gazing lovingly into each other’s eyes and Andy affectionately nuzzling the dog’s head. Andy also shared an Instagram Story, in which Wacha gave him a big kiss on the cheek. Andy could not have looked more delighted by the slobbery display of affection.
Even when he and Wacha aren’t together, Andy keeps up with the dog he adores. Back in 2021, he even shared an update about the pooch’s burgeoning interest in chickens on WWHL. After a viewer asked how Wacha was doing in his new home, Andy shared: “He’s good. He’s in Vermont, and he saw some chickens today that he was trying to attack. He’s very busy doing dog things.”
But Wacha isn’t too busy to spend some time with an old friend. Check out these adorable reunion photos below and try not to get teary-eyed. (That didn’t work for Margaret Josephs, who commented, “I’m crying.”)
Why did Andy re-home Wacha?
Andy originally adopted Wacha from a Virginia shelter back in 2013. In 2020, after he welcomed his newborn son, Benjamin, the talk show host had to make a tough decision.
In an emotional Instagram post, Andy wrote, “I’ve put off sharing this news as long as I could. As you may know, Wacha is my first baby, my beautiful rescue puppy. He is my pride and joy. When he came into my life, my world changed. Over the nearly seven years that I’ve been blessed to have Wacha in my life, we have worked to address some occasional random signs of aggression. No effort was spared in the attempt to help Wacha feel adjusted. After an incident a few months ago, numerous professionals led me to the conclusion that my home is simply not a good place for him. Keeping him here could be catastrophic for Ben and worse for Wacha. The good news is that he now has a permanent home with his second family, in the place he lived every single time I went out of town.”
Andy’s post continued: “He is thriving. We still see each other, but a piece of my heart is gone. I miss his weight on top of me first thing in the morning. I miss him waiting for me in front of the shower. And I miss the sound of his paws on the floor when I come home. I am not the same person I was when I got him. My dog changed me. He opened me up to love… to caring… and ultimately to having a family. When I think of him — let’s be honest, when don’t I think of him — it’s with the clarity that we were meant to come into each other’s lives exactly when we did, and that he’s happy, which gives me peace of mind. We did rescue each other. Thank you, Wacha.”
To this day, a piece of Wacha remains in the WWHL Clubhouse. Check out the clip above to get a glimpse of Wacha’s on-set dog bed and a plush version of the beloved pooch.
