This Is the Reason Why People Aren’t Happy with Kim Kardashian West's Latest Vogue Cover

Back in May 2017, Vogue India sparked controversy after casting Kendall Jenner as the cover model for its 10th anniversary issue, and social media backlash ensued. Commenters' major complaint was that a magazine celebrating Indian culture should feature an Indian model on its cover.

Well, history just repeated itself, but with a different Kardashian-Jenner. Kim Kardashian West is on the March issue of Vogue India, and commenters are criticizing the magazine online for the casting. Yahoo! reports that some are accusing Vogue India of “whitewashing” South Asian culture.

The magazine shut down its Instagram comments for the pic of the cover, but folks are still sounding off on Twitter. One user wrote: "No shade on the Kardashians.. but like y’all seriously couldn’t find an INDIAN for the cover? First Kendall & now Kim?" 

Another tweeted: "I can’t believe @VOGUEIndia featured Kim Kardashian on their cover as if we don’t see her featured on a different magazine every day. India’s vogue should embrace and feature their own south Asian women instead of choosing someone from pop culture."

Kardashian West, who wore a traditional Indian style called a lehenga in the pages of the magazine, had plenty of supporters, however.

A commenter tweeted: "Vogue India celebrates Indians/poc most of the year, they deviate occasionally... you could call it multiculturalism. But all of a sudden, people are outraged?? Also, Kim Kardashian sells, if you want your fellow Indians to prosper, buy the magazine when they’re on the cover."

Another wrote on Twitter: "Kim Kardashian looks amazing in Vogue India, I got SO excited seeing her rock a lengha. There are literally always Bollywood actresses featuring. Why people always need to be offended I'll never understand." 

The controversy continues — although, controversy seems to follow the Kardashian-Jenners at all times.
