The Internet Is Fuming Over Katy Perry's Bizarre, Obama-Related Hair Joke
You're cut off, Katy.
Katy Perry should be devoting all her time today to Met Gala prep, since she scored the very prestigious gig of co-chair with Vogue for tonight's event. But now she has a little Internet debacle on her hands, thanks to a very weird joke she made on Instagram Live about Barack Obama and her new platinum buzz cut, E! reports.
You can watch the video below, but Katy responded to a question from a viewer by saying: "Oh, someone says, 'I miss your old black hair." Then she replies sarcastically, "Oh, really? Do you miss Barack Obama as well? Oh, OK. Times change. Bye! See you guys later." Someone in the car with her says, "You're cut off."
Is this a joke? Have to admit we don't entirely get it, or at least the part that's supposed to be funny. Is she saying that she wishes people would ask her more substantive questions, and ask about politics over hairstyles? Regardless, folks on Twitter are pointing out that this doesn't really fit with her new "purposeful pop" persona.
Katy's performed at the White House during the Obama years and President Obama even called her one of his favorite people in 2016. There's definitely a lot of love there, but maybe she should've considered a different analogy to describe her brunette-to-platinum-pixie hair transformation.
