Andy Cohen Explains How He Ended Up on *That* Vacation With a Squad of A-List Celebrities
It was an epic invitation — shrouded in mystery, the #WWHL host says.
Remember that one time Andy Cohen was vacationing in Tahiti with Anderson Cooper, Diane Von Furstenberg, Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk, and Allison Williams and her husband, Ricky Van Veen? Good times, good times. In fact, it had to be the best celebrity-squad vacation moment since Barack and Michelle Obama went yachting with Bruce Springsteen, Oprah Winfrey, and Tom Hanks (who got a little "screwed" in the process, which somehow made it all the more major).
We pieced together a bit about how Andy and all those celebrities came together for the trip to paradise in the South Pacific: Andy is close with Anderson and the two have a show that tours together; Andy and DVF go way back, and he cited her a dozen times in his book; and Allison and Bradley were guests on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
But now, for the first time, we have Andy's own explanation behind the epic vacation moment. "The vacation was great," Andy told us in the video above, captured at The Real Housewives of New York City reunion taping. "It was really fun." And that much was already clear.
But how on earth did the whole plan really get rolling behind the scenes? Turns out the details were a surprise to Andy. "I didn’t know who was gonna be on the trip," he told us — but even without that key piece of data, he knew better than to say no. "I accept most invitations on boats."
And that's his advice to all of us, too: "My advice to anyone is make a friend with a boat!"
Good call, Andy. We're taking notes.
