Chef Fatima Ali Said She Might Write a Book — In 3 Hours, 9,000 People Already Wanted to Read It
After a terminal cancer diagnosis, Bravo's Top Chef alum Fatima Ali is telling her story — and asking fans for input.
Bravo's Top Chef Season 15 Fan Favorite Chef Fatima Ali penned a heartbreaking essay in October to share the news that her cancer has returned and it's terminal, with doctors estimating she has about a year to live. Now, she's spending her life devouring sensory pleasures (she's made a restaurant bucket list) and sharing her inspiring approach with fans. In fact, she said she's even "contemplating" writing a book to tell more of her story.
"I'm contemplating writing a short book, or collection of essays or something," she wrote on Instagram, reaching out to followers for their thoughts on the idea.
"Question is: would you read it? What kinds of things would you want to learn about me, if anything?" In Chef Fati's signature relatable manner, she added, "Also answers can be: f--k no I won’t read it....K thanks xox."
But of course, fans — to the tune of nearly 1,000 commenters and 8,000 likes in the first three hours after the post went up — are all about the idea.
"Are you crazy? I'd be upset if you didn't do this," wrote fellow Top Chef competitor Joe Sasto. "You're an amazing writer."
Others urged her to consider including recipes, advice for other inspiring chefs, and specific questions such as, "What brings you joy?" and "What have you learned about yourself this year?"
So what would you want to know about Chef Fati's deeply inspiring story? Well — now's the time to slide into her DMs and tell her directly.
