RHOD's Cary Deuber Spills Her Beauty Secrets for Busy Moms
Here's everything she does when she doesn't even have five minutes.
We asked The Real Housewives of Dallas' Cary Deuber, a working mom who's always on the go, to fill us in on the beauty products she relies on when she doesn't even have five minutes to spare. The Real Housewives of Dallas airs Mondays at 10/9c.
Most of us moms know that whether you expect it or not, you are going to end up rushing from one place or to another with your kid(s). There’s just no getting around it! Kids and life with them is absolutely unpredictable, but we don’t necessarily have to give up our little glam secrets just for them :). They already changed our bodies enough, so how about a few beauty tips and hacks to keep up with the kiddos, while still looking like a hot mama! (...Hopefully.)
My key beauty essentials are foundation, lip gloss, and mascara (if I’m lucky!). Usually, I end up applying these things in the car, at the office, or literally walking in the parking lot to a meeting. In the daily mom life (at least in mine), there’s no time for chic little sponges or contouring kits… no lash applicators or highlighting pallets.
Now, if I get really adventurous, I might apply a little Tom Ford cream blush and contour to my cheeks, and that’s my “date night” secret! It is a quick fix to go from daytime to nighttime.
It Cosmetics CC Cream
This is my go-to foundation. It offers fantastic coverage and sun protection. Sun protection is key for me. You only get one skin and protecting it from environmental and sun damage is so important. I like using a liquid foundation like this because it’s lightweight and easy to just spread on my face with my fingertips. Since this usually means that I won’t be using a mirror, I rarely use concealer that needs to be precise and instead go with a reliable foundation that has plenty of SPF to keep my skin safe as well as smooth. The most important thing at the end of the day is skincare, so I recommend looking out for products that have some element of sun protection in them so that you don’t have to come to my laser center later to get it fixed!
Laura Geller Beauty Cover Lock Cream Foundation
Liquid matte foundations like this one also feel breathable so that without looking spotty, I can tell that I’ve covered my whole face like a moisturizer that lays even.
Chanel Hydra Beauty Nourishing Lip Care
Lip gloss is the area where I actually splurge a bit on myself and go with my trusty Chanel Hydra Beauty Nourishing Lip Care. This is perfect for moms on the go because it comes in a flat, easy to carry container, and it’s essentially colorless (so it won’t clash with anything you’re wearing). Plus, your little ones will love feeling like they’re wearing “mommy’s lipgloss” (without looking like an extra from Moulin Rouge). Now, I’m a science geek, so I love how this restorative balm delivers the moisturizing benefits of Camellia Alba PFA, while Camellia oil softens and smoothes lips, for a hydrated, healthy-looking smile. Natural beauty is key and I really like simple products like this that don’t make me look like some “over-the-top mom” in the carpool lane.
L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Mascara
Speaking of getting dolled up, mascara for me is like the special icing on the cake of getting ready quickly. I always do it last, and it usually gets skipped when I’m in a big rush, but this is why I like VOLUME products like L'Oreal in “carbon black” or the darkest black that I can find so that it adds volume in as few strokes as possible. Tip: Use mascara only on your top lashes for more of an open-eyed look and to reduce the chances of sweat, tears, or whatever your 4-year-old spills on your face from dripping making you look like a sad raccoon. Runny mascara is a tell tale sign of a mom who has gone THROUGH it for the day, so keep it on the top and skip the liner for a cleaner look on the go.
We never know what kind of unpredictable things our days may bring as busy moms, but at least with some of these tips, maybe we can be a little more prepared to take on all those mommy challenges in style.
