This Is Why Porsha Williams' Openness About Her Past Miscarriage Matters
The Real Housewives of Atlanta pal has announced she's expecting her first child.
Porsha Williams is over the moon to announce that she's expecting her first child with boyfriend Dennis McKinley, and has opened up about her fears in the wake of a past miscarriage that she experienced six years ago.
“I’ve had a miscarriage before in my past, which I’ve also been open about because I suffer with fibroids and had to have a myomectomy,” she told PEOPLE. “So just the fear of, ‘Is the baby going to be okay? Will I make it full term?’ All those questions that you ask if you’ve had a miscarriage before.”
She shared that getting good news now has allowed her to accept that she will become a parent.
“Going into the first appointment and being able to see baby and hear baby and know that baby is fine, then I can really wrap my mind around actually becoming a mommy.”
Porsha's openness about her past miscarriage is not only healthy for her in order to process what happened before, it will also inspire other women to share their stories and normalize a common experience.
"It's great that celebrities are being more open about their experiences with pregnancy loss and infertility, since it helps others in this situation realize how common it is,” Andrea Syrtash, the founder of Pregnantish, told Personal Space. "When we see celebrities with baby bumps and perfect looking families, it's so easy to think that they had an easy path to parenthood. By opening up about their struggles, people in the public eye can help others feel less alone."
Best wishes and congratulations to Porsha and Dennis on starting their new family!
