Gasp! Behold the First Photo of the Finished Royal Wedding Cake: “An Absolute Dream”
Violet Bakery shared the first photo of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's finished cake — and it’s perfection.
Have you exhaled yet after seeing the first photos of the new Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle in her gown at her royal wedding to Prince Harry? Then you might be ready to get socked in the feels by the next breathtaking image to emerge from the big day: a photo of the royal wedding cake.
We learned back in March that Meghan Markle had chosen Claire Ptak, who Markle previously interviewed for her former blog, The Tig, to bake the cake for her wedding to Prince Harry. And at that time, Kensington Palace released a statement announcing the cake's flavor would be lemon elderflower.
As this week progressed, the bakery shared several progress photos on Instagram of the confection that spawned a million speculations getting underway at last.
And today, after the big event in London, the bakery shared an image of the finished product. Stacked upon golden trays at various levels, and festooned wth white flowers and green foliage, the cake is every bit the visual stunner you might have expected — if not in a traditional stacked format.
“Congratulations to the beautiful couple. Thank you so much for asking me to create your wedding cake. It’s been an absolute dream,” the caption read.
Posting a followup image showing the team in their crisp white aprons — with a bowl of white buttercream and another filled with lemons in the frame — the baker tagged Sunspel Clothing, the English heritage brand founded in 1860. She wrote, “When you’re baking something special, always dress to impress,” and thanked Sunspel for “capturing our essence.”
Commenters sent well wishes from around the world — including from across the pond; Ptak was raised in California.
In its March release about the cake, Kensington Palace said: “Prince Harry and Ms. Markle have asked Ms. Ptak to create a lemon elderflower cake to incorporate the bright flavours of spring. It will be covered with buttercream and decorated with fresh flowers. They are very much looking forward to sharing this cake with their wedding guests on May 19th."
And at last… they did.
