Celeb Trainer Jillian Michaels Slams the Keto Diet: "No! Bad Plan — for a Million Reasons"
Celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels isn't holding back when it comes to the controversial Keto diet.
As the Keto diet has gained steam amongst celebrities, there has emerged two clear camps: those who love it, and those who think it's dangerous or just plain "dumb." Keto has had vocal critics from the medical and exercise community, and the latest voice to lend her opinion from the latter is star trainer and TV personality Jillian Michaels.
“Why would anyone think this is a good idea?” Michaels asked in a video for Women’s Health. “‘You know what we need to do? All fat and animal protein!’ Ding! Ding! Ding! No! Bad plan. For a million reasons."
“Let's start with the first one. Your cells, your macro molecules, are literally made up of protein, fat, carbohydrates, nucleic acids," she went on to explain. "When you do not eat one of the three macro nutrients — those three things I just mentioned — you’re starving your cells. Those macro nutrients serve a very important purpose for your overall health and wellbeing. Each and every one of them.”
Instead of Keto, Jillian suggests striving for regular exercise and eating a diet that is mindful of caloric intake and moderate in grains and processed sugars.
"Common sense," she said. "Balanced diet is key."
