Dax Shepard Nursed Kristen Bell's Breast Milk in This All-Too-Real Mom Moment
"We could talk about it, we could be weird about it, or you could just go ahead and nurse."
There's been a recent online outpouring of real stories from mothers willing to be candid about their experiences with breastfeeding — whether they love or loathe the experience. (And we say: More power to all of that!) Included among those moms are even celebrities who are sharing all-too-real accounts of the myriad challenges that nursing can pose. And wouldn't you know that Kristen Bell — known and beloved for her candor and relatability — is among that group telling it like it is?
On her Ellen video series Momsplaining with Kristen Bell, she disclosed that she developed a painful breast infection called mastitis that's caused by blocked milk ducts. Her husband Dax Shepard once helped with unblocking a duct when they were on the road and couldn't get to a doctor when the pain got severe.
The details are a little graphic, but let's just say a grown man ended up extracting food meant for babies — in support of his partner's painful situation. All said and done, Kristen declared, "I've never been more in love in my life," when he saw the lengths he'd go to in order to help her. "I said to my husband, 'I really need you to suck this out. We could talk about it, we could be weird about it, or you could just go ahead and nurse."
And so he did: "He pulled it out. He had a cup next to him. He was pulling out and spitting into this cup."
