Where in the World Is Luis D. Ortiz Now? Ryan Serhant Fills Us In
The Million Dollar Listing New York alum doesn't live in Paris anymore.
If you follow Luis D. Ortiz on Instagram, you know that the Million Dollar Listing New York agent changes locations basically as frequently as he changes underwear. OK, we're (sort of) exaggerating, but Luis is definitely a globetrotter, hopping from California to New York to Australia to London in just 2018 alone.
Luis memorably left New York real estate behind after Season 5 of MDLNY. He appeared on Season 6 to break the news to Fredrik Eklund and Ryan Serhant that he was moving to Paris, which the MDLNY agents were trepidatious about. Fredrik and Ryan then caught up with Luis in the City of Lights in the Season 6 finale, and the MDLNY alum expressed that he wasn't sure if he was happy with his new Parisian life (clip above).
Since it seems like Luis is a bit of a tricky one to pin down these days, we luckily had Ryan fill us in on what he's been up to since last season's MDLNY finale when The Daily Dish caught up with him earlier this spring. "Luis is living the life. Luis is out there. We follow him on social, he's all over the world, like every other day, he posts another photo from somewhere else in the world. And so, he's a real frequent flyer, that one. He's all over the place," he said. "But I think that's what he wanted to do. He just wanted to travel, see the world, live life, and he's living it. And I give him a lot of credit for actually doing it because a lot of people talk about doing that kind of lifestyle all the time, and it can be very expensive. But he's figured out how to do it and how to be happy doing it. So it's great."
Luis moved to Los Angeles in January, sharing on Instagram that he was in the midst of "exploring and creating stories and ideas to produce and direct" once he was settled on the West Coast. But when it comes to the specifics of Luis' life these days, Ryan admitted that he couldn't offer up much more information on his whereabouts, his current career, and the like. "No, I don't even think he knows, honestly. I think he puts it on Instagram so he can tell everyone else, 'Hey, if you don't hear from me, this is my last spot,'" Ryan joked to The Daily Dish. "Because he's just bouncing around everywhere, which is cool. Good for him."
With all of this goodness going on in Luis' life these days, Ryan said that he isn't so sure his former colleague would ever make a return to real estate. "I doubt it. Real estate is so hard to get into in the first place. It's the easiest thing ever to start because it costs you a couple hundred bucks, and you get your real estate license, but it is so hard to start a career because it's very, very difficult to get clients, to keep them, to get them to trust you, to get them to believe in you, to be knowledgable about what it is you're selling. Once you get there like he did and then you walk away from it, you don't go back. It's always gonna be hard," Ryan explained. "I'm sure he could if he came back, but I don't think he wants to. I think he wants to have a happy life instead of having just a happy work life."
Luis may have moved on from MDLNY, but familiar faces will be back when Season 7 premieres on Thursday, June 12 at 10/9c. See what's in store for Ryan, Fredrik, and Steve Gold in the upcoming season, below.
