Thomas Ravenel Defends His Parenting After Kathryn C. Dennis' Accusations
"She’s using the power of the kids by not letting me see them, ruthlessly and to their detriment,” he says.
Kathryn C. Dennis put Thomas Ravenel's parenting skills on blast on Twitter Monday, accusing him of, among other things, not paying child support. Thomas has now responded to Kathryn's accusations, and he said they're simply not true. “I don’t have to pay anything, but I’m paying $3,100 a month,” Thomas said in an interview with Charleston City Paper published Wednesday. “I can only see my kids four days per month, and she makes all this fuss just because I put up a picture on Instagram.”
That "picture" Thomas is referring to is one that shows him with an unidentified woman. He has since made his Instagram account private. “It all started because someone sent her a picture of me and some girl in D.C. So I’m just not going to post any pictures,” Thomas said.
He went on to suggest that South Carolina's laws have made him essentially powerless in raising his children. “You have to mention the state law. If you’re not married, the woman could be Godzilla; I could be Jesus Christ. Godzilla calls all the shots. That’s the way it is. If we were married, I’d have control,” Thomas told Charleston City Paper.
In fact, Thomas said he hasn't seen his children (an almost 2-year-old daughter Kensie and three-month-old son St. Julien) because Kathryn won't allow it.
“Here are the facts: I don’t have the right to see the kids. She won’t let me see them,” Ravenel added. “I’m paying child support, even though I don’t have to. I’m not using the power of the purse. She’s using the power of the kids by not letting me see them, ruthlessly and to their detriment.”
Thomas later told The Daily Dish that Kathryn hasn't responded to his attempts to rectify the situation. “She refuses to respond to my offer of $4,500 per month with my paying 80 percent of all medical and education costs and we'd split custody 50/50. This would be court ordered which means it would protect her in that if I didn't pay I'd be throw in jail," he said. "Also, she has rejected three mediation dates claiming that SHE would be out of town. She is also on her third attorney."
Kathryn hasn't specifically responded to Thomas' interview just yet, but she did confirm that the two are "off" in this on-again, off-again relationship in an interview with Fitsnews also published Wednesday. "I want the best for all my relationships – with all people – and for the people in those relationships, whether I am with them or not. I really do," Kathryn said in regards to whether or not she had a response to Thomas saying "some pretty nasty things" about her. "So I want the best for him and always want to think the best of him as the father of my children but ..."
But just hours before, Kathryn was throwing more shade at Thomas on Twitter. "My baby daddy at bars trying to get youngins once again #calledOUT," she wrote on Tuesday.
