The Real Housewives of Dallas' Brandi Redmond Has Adopted a Baby Boy
The RHOD mom opens up about her "miracle baby."
Brandi Redmond's dream of growing her family has finally come true. The Real Housewives of Dallas mom shared that she and husband Bryan Redmond adopted an infant son, Bruin Charles, this past winter.
Brandi recently opened up to PEOPLE about her adoption journey. “It’s changed our lives forever,” she shared. “We are obsessed with him, my whole family is. We’re just so blessed.”
Brandi expressed her desire to give daughters Brooklyn, 9, and Brinkley, 6, another sibling last season of RHOD. She revealed that she had suffered a miscarriage while trying to grow her family and explored with her OBGYN what challenges lie ahead for her as she tried to get pregnant with baby No.3. But after failing to conceive, Brandi and Bryan decided to stop trying for another baby, according to PEOPLE.
But at the beginning of 2018, Brandi got a call from a friend connected to a social worker who told the family about Bruin. Bruin was born prematurely on December 31, weighing 4 pounds and 5 ounces and measuring 18 inches. His biological parents were teenagers, who awarded him to the state at birth. Social workers had trouble finding a family who wanted a son until they found Brandi and Bryan. “It happened pretty much overnight,” Brandi told PEOPLE. “He was in the neonatal intensive care unit because he was born prematurely, so we flew out of Dallas — he was still in Texas —and we met him in the hospital. We just immediately fell in love.”
Since joining the Redmond family, Bruin has been filled with joy. “He’s so, so happy,” Brandi shared. “From the moment that I met him for the first time, he just looked straight into my eyes, held my finger as tight as he could, and let out this giant grin. And it’s been like that ever since. He smiles all the time and just giggles and laughs.”
Brandi, who has a brother who is adopted, and Bryan adopted Bruin via a closed adoption. And Bruin is a “perfect fit” for this family of redheads, right down to his strawberry blonde hair. “It’s crazy,” Brandi said. “He’ll always look like he came from me, which he did — he came from my heart.”
Bruin has also been given a moniker that starts with “Br,” just like the rest of the Redmonds. “When I was pregnant with Brinkley, the doctor’s said that she was a boy and my husband always loved the name Bruin,” Brandi explained how the couple came up with their son's name to PEOPLE. “My husband’s into sports and I think he’s a UCLA fan [despite the fact that] he didn’t go there. And he just loved that name. So Brinkley was ‘Bruin’ for a little bit until they said, ‘Oh no, it’s a girl.’”
Now Brandi feels that her family is “one hundred and ten percent complete.” “His biological parents, I just think they were so brave to make the best decision for him. I’m very honored and excited that he’s a part of our family now,” she said. “He’s our miracle baby. Things happen for a reason and God gives you exactly what you can handle. This was just meant to be.”
The RHOD mom previously gave The Daily Dish an update on how her little girls, Brooklyn and Brinkley, are doing, particularly after they changed schools following the first season of the series last August. "Brooklyn loves her new school. She absolutely loves it. She's thriving. The little girl is a little genius. She's like her dad," Brandi gushed. "Brinkley's more so like me: a character."
