Did Andy Cohen Just Accidentally Get in the Middle of the Taylor Swift-Katy Perry Feud?
"I totally forgot that it was happening," the #WWHL host says of his encounter with the pop star.
The year was 2016 and the place was the Met Gala. It was there that Andy Cohen ran into Taylor Swift and the pair had quite an epic encounter, as he recalls in his latest book, Superficial: More Adventures from the Andy Cohen Diaries, out now. While at the annual bash, he accidentally inserted himself in her alleged feud with Katy Perry.
He writes, "Why I felt I needed to get involved I will never know (maybe I was auditioning for her squad?), but I innocently said exactly the wrong thing to her, which was: 'Your friend Katy is sitting in the corner and there's plenty of room around her.' She asked, 'Katy who?' and I said, 'Perry,' at which point she clearly let me know that she's the exact opposite of her friend," Andy wrote. "I kind of gasped, realizing she was in the most famous feud of all the feuds, one that I'd talked about endlessly on WWHL."
Now, Andy is reflecting on that encounter to The Daily Dish. "The run-in with Taylor Swift at the Met Ball, that was something that she said to me, 'Don't talk about this on our show' and then I wrote about it in my book, so I can't imagine that she might be happy about that?" the Watch What Happens Live host shared. "But you know, look, to me I'm the butt of the joke in that story because I'm the idiot that brought up Katy Perry to her at the Met Ball when I've spoken about Taylor Swift and Katy Perry's feud many times on my show. Now I just happened to forget the moment that I talk about it at the Met Ball. I totally forgot that it was happening."
Still, Andy hopes there are no hard feelings now that the reveal is public. "I like Taylor Swift," he said. "I hope she's not too mad at me. I mean she said, 'Don't talk about this on your show,' but she didn't say, 'Don't talk about it in your book.'"
