Sonja Morgan Stars in an Off-Broadway Play

Look out, New York! The theater world is about to get a whole lot sexier.

How to Watch

Watch The Real Housewives of New York City on Bravo Tuesdays at 9/8c and stream next day on Peacock. Catch up on the Bravo app.

That's because Sonja Morgan will be making her New York stage debut in the Off-Broadway comedy Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man beginning October 1 through October 22. In the play, Sonja will take on the role of Robyn, a mild-mannered moderator of a sex tips seminar hosted by a fictional version of author Dan Anderson (Grant MacDermott), who co-wrote the book on which the play is based.

So yeah, it's a bit of a stretch for Sonja, who we've always known as one of the sultriest Housewives ever. But that's exactly what The Real Housewives of New York City mom found attractive about the role. "I like the challenge, because she's the opposite of Sexy Sonja, who's very forward and has this bawdy sense of humor about sex," Sonja told The Daily Dish at a press preview of the play. "And [the show's playwright and producer Matt Murphy] said, 'Well, [Robyn's] very uptight, high anxiety, very professional about being a professor.' I said, 'Oh, this is gonna be great.' So I accepted."

Matt said that he approached Sonja for the role after watching her for many seasons on RHONY. "We thought that she would be perfect for it because she's the fan favorite on Real Housewives of New York, she goes with the flow, she dives into anything, and she's funny. She's just funny. What you see on TV is actually who she is," he told The Daily Dish at the event. "She knows how to hold the stage, she knows how to hold the audience, and she's just been a joy to work with. She really works hard. We feel like it was perfect casting, essentially."

Throughout the show, Dan educates the audience on many sexy topics with his trusty and gorgeous assistant Stefan (Michael Milton) by his side, while also trying to help Robyn unleash her inner sex goddess to woo Stefan. One way he does this is by teaching Robyn the art of the blowjob with the help of some suggestive fruits and vegetables, and Sonja said her famous "Caburlesque" skills have come in handy for this scene.

Although Sonja said rehearsals have been "grueling," Sex Tips director Tim Drucker said that she hasn't needed much coaching. "She's just such a natural comedian, and she really has an amazing energy, and I think that takes you so far in the theater, but she's genuinely a natural stage talent," he told The Daily Dish at the event. "She kind of reminds me of Lucille Ball or Fanny Brice. I mean, she's just so funny and so into it and just throws herself into everything. I'm really excited for people to see her because she cracks me up in rehearsal all the time."

Sonja said that she's hoping people enjoy the show as much as she has. "I like to make other people happy. That's what it's all about, making them comfortable," she said. "If I'm not making people happy, I like to make them feel sexy. And I think this play does that because I did come to see it, and it does make you feel sexy. It makes you feel like anybody can do it."

So is there anything discussed or demonstrated in the show that has even made Lady Morgan blush? "I told my daughter [Quincy], and she's 16, and her teenage friends, you know, the show is fun, but sex comes naturally. The gay friends like to tell you that they have all these techniques, but it's really up here [pointing at her head]," Sonja explained. "For me, it's like, who did I have better sex with? The way I look at it is just as long as I'm getting it, I'm happy. Do you really remember who was better, really? Men don't marry their best sexual partner; they marry their best friend. So don't worry about the techniques. I never do."

Sonja said Andy Cohen "should love" the show since he's such a fan of her "Caburlesque" performances. Though she said she doesn't yet know whether or not any of the other RHONY ladies are planning on picking up some sex tips themselves, she does think it would be perfect for a very special upcoming night out on the town. "I think this would be great for Luann [de Lesseps]. We could have a bachelorette party here and then go out afterwards and just talk about sex," Sonja said. "You know, Luann, she loves a good party. And she definitely loves sex. So this will be great. And she loves theater! She'll put on a headdress and come."

And if you can't make it out to the theater to see Sonja in action, reliving her past "Caburlesque" performances should do the trick.
