Rebecca Romijn Let the Shade Fly While Explaining Her Twitter Spat with Yolanda Hadid
The actress/supermodel said "it felt pretty good" to interact with the #RHOBH mom in her "first Twitter war."
Yolanda Hadid went from #ProudMommy to #ProtectiveMommy after it seemed that Rebecca Romijn was criticizing today's social supermodels for setting "our style standards" during an interview with ET in April. Though Rebecca later said she "never talked smack" about Yolanda's daughter, Gigi Hadid, and her good friend, Kendall Jenner, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum fired back at her on Twitter in defense of the young fashionistas.
Now reflecting on the incident several months later on Watch What Happens Live Sunday, Rebecca says she still doesn't know why it seemed like Yolanda was fighting Gigi's battles. "I don't even know why she got involved. I was like, 'Oh, are we bringing our mommies in now? Should I get my mom?'" the supermodel told a WWHL caller (clip above). "I thought that it was really none of her business."
Rebecca then went on to clarify that she never meant to ridicule any of today's young models in particular. "I was commenting about models in social media. Fashion in general should not be followers; fashion in general should be leading the way. And somehow these names got thrown into the mix," she explained to Andy Cohen. "I was never calling anyone out, but when Yolanda got involved, I was like, 'What? Why the mom now? Why the mom?'"
Still, as a Real Housewives fan, Rebecca said "it felt pretty good" to interact with Yolanda in her "first Twitter war." She added, "When I was a kid, I loved Yolanda as a model," she told Andy. "She used to be in my mom's catalogues when I was growing up. I was totally aware of Yolanda. She was a great model."
Did it just get darker in here? Because we definitely sense some shade sandwiched in between those compliments. Rebecca even agreed that she served up "a little low-key shade," but her fellow guest, The Real Housewives of Atlanta's Cynthia Bailey felt like it hit a bit harder than that. "That wasn't even low-key shade. That was just regular shade," she said.
Yolanda doesn't seem to have responded to Rebecca's comments just yet. She may still be basking in the glory of seeing Gigi host the American Music Awards Sunday night. But when it comes to the next move, the ball is definitely in her court.
