Real Housewives of New York's New Housewife: 8 Fun Facts
Dorinda Medley loves a good cocktail—and has rubbed shoulders with royalty.
With The Real Housewives of New York set to return on April 7th, viewers are looking forward to getting to see some of their favorite familiar faces—including the return of seasoned vet, Bethenny Frankel.
But there’s a newcomer joining the mix, and one who has the experience and perspective that makes her perfect for the show. Find out why newly confirmed cast member Dorinda Medley is fit to be a Housewife.
She’s rubbed shoulders with royalty!
Dorinda once started a cashmere company in London that counted Princess Di as a devoted customer. “It was 1989. I got Princess Diana to be one of my clients, and project [the company] forward with the British classes,” she says. How posh!
She loves a good cocktail.
Though she may not be joining Ramona for Turtle Time, the newest addition to the franchise can’t resist a good martini—the dirtier, the better. “Nothing is more elegant than a martini glass,” she says.
She isn’t afraid of confrontation.
In fact, Dorinda finds some forms of fighting to be an educational experience. “I like to see a good argument between two people,” she says. “I think you learn when you argue. It’s just an expression of your opinion.”
She’s a fan of the Berkshires!
The Massachusetts native shares one thing with Heather Thomson right off the bat—she finds the Berkshires “incredible!!!!” HOLLA!
She mixes business with pleasure.
After ten years in London, Dorinda returned to the Big Apple and became a real estate broker, which is how she met her second husband. Seven months after selling Richard Medley, a hedge fund adviser, a swanky townhouse on the Upper East Side, the two started dating. “If I had known I was going to be living there, I would have gotten the bigger townhouse,” she quips.
Her hardships have made her stronger.
Sadly, Richard passed away in 2011, but Dorinda insists that facing adversity has helped her grow—and join RHONY. “I’ve been presented with a lot of different challenges and that’s why I wasn’t afraid to be on the ‘Housewives," she explains. “The whole point is to keep going forward and try again.”
She’s not the only Housewife whose daughter has some modeling chops.
Proud mother to 21-year-old daughter Hannah, Dorinda isn’t shy to show off the stunner. “#tbt of my gorgeous daughter on holiday in Greece,” she titled a photo on Instagram. Watch out, Gigi Hadid!
She’s the life of the party.
This Upper East Sider isn’t afraid to let her hair down, and doesn’t intend for age to ever slow her down. “I want to be the woman at 80 cracking jokes and picking up a man,” she says. “I want to be the life of the party until my last breath.”
