Mr. Robot's Grace Gummer Watched the Real Housewives of New Jersey to Prep for Her Role
The actress "got the Jerz down" with a little help from #RHONJ.
Forget Lee Strasberg's method; the way to prepare for a major acting role these days is by watching The Real Housewives of New Jersey, apparently.
Hollywood's highest-paid actress Jennifer Lawrence previously revealed that the ladies of the Garden State inspired her American Hustle character's accent, and now Grace Gummer says the show helped her prep for her Mr. Robot role. "I watched a show called The Real Housewives of New Jersey in my research," Grace said during her appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Tuesday (clip below).
Grace, who joins Season 2 of Mr. Robot as New Jersey native and FBI agent Dominique "Dom" DiPierro, added that she "got the Jerz down," thanks to RHONJ. But she admitted that she "toned it down a little bit" when it came to her character's accent.
Even though Grace is a fan of The Real Housewives, she didn't just use this opportunity as an excuse to watch RHONJ. This method was actually prescribed by her dialect coach. "Well, I wanted to get into the Jersey mode, and I actually had a dialect coach who said, 'You should watch [RHONJ] as practice and to hear how people speak,'" Grace said when she stopped by The TODAY Show Wednesday. "I was like, 'Fine, I got it.'"
However, her favorite Housewife right now isn't actually from RHONJ. "Oh my God, I have so many. I love Erika Jayne," she told Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb about her favorite Housewife. "I love them all, though."
Watch J-Law talk another one of her Bravo favorites, Vanderpump Rules, which also got a shout-out earlier this season of Mr. Robot, below.
