Oprah Winfrey Is Still Not Planning to Run for President in 2020: “I Don’t Have the DNA For It”
Her Golden Globes speech made some hope she'd consider a run for the executive office.
Oprah Winfrey's epic speech at the 2018 Golden Globes made some people hope she might run for president in 2020, but she still doesn't have any plans to take on the executive office.
“I’ve always felt very secure and confident with myself in knowing what I could do and what I could not, and so it’s not something that interests me,” she told InStyle for their March cover story, in an interview that was conducted three weeks before her speech at the Golden Globes. “I don’t have the DNA for it.”
She did admit to seeing an "Oprah 2020" mug and she thought it was "cute." "All you need is a mug and some campaign literature and a T-shirt," she joked.
"I do think she was intrigued by the idea," her BFF Gayle King said on CBS This Morning shortly after the Golden Globes. "I do think that. I also know that after years of watching the 'Oprah show,’ you always have the right to change your mind. I don’t think at this point she is actually considering it.”
