Luann de Lesseps Responds to the Controversy Surrounding Her Diana Ross Costume
The Real Housewives of New York City star opens up about her buzzy look at Dorinda Medley's party.
When Luann de Lesseps showed up to Dorinda Medley's Halloween party during the The Real Housewives of New York City Season 10 premiere, she definitely made a statement with her tribute to Diana Ross, complete with an afro fit for a diva. And her look has since raised some questions. She responded to the chatter during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Wednesday.
"No, I didn't. I had bronzer on that I wear normally like the rest of my skin. I'm tan, like, right now. So I didn't add anything or try to ever, ever, ever dream of doing a blackface, ever. So I'm very sorry to everyone out there if I offended anyone," she said during her Clubhouse appearance.
She noted that the costume was definitely inspired by her love for the singer, which she explains more about in the clip above.
In the episode, Luann explains that in stepping out like Diana Ross, she was re-embracing her power in the wake of her split from Tom D'Agostino, explaining, "It's been a while since I felt my girl power."
She spoke more about that in an interview with The Daily Dish this week ahead of the premiere, sharing how she's even taken that a step further as of late in the wake of her arrest and stay at an alcohol treatment center. "You know, I felt like I had been through so much of recent and I just want to celebrate life and everyday that you wake up and you open your eyes is a good day," she told us. "So I'm celebrating the power that I've gained back from this whole experience and I'm celebrating how [much] happier I am without booze."
