Kelly Clarkson and Steve Carell Came Face to Face at Last at the Golden Globes: Did He Scream Her Name?
It's been years since the singer's name came to mind during a scene in The 40-Year-Old Virgin.
It was a meme come to life. At the 2018 Golden Globes, Steve Carell and Kelly Clarkson finally met face-to-face, and in case you're curious: nope, the actor did not scream the singer's name upon meeting her.
If you're a bit confused, here's a quick refresher: In his 2005 flick The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Carell's character got a painful chest wax. And, in his squeamishness, he yelled out, "Aaaaah ... Kelly Clarkson!" Not the most customary of cusses, but hilarious nonetheless.
The Meaning of Life singer totally laughed along with the joke. Back in November, she told Sunday Today, "I have yet to meet Steve Carell and I want to be like, 'So, was it a compliment?' I don't know, like, you're in pain and you think of Kelly Clarkson!" But in the end, Clarkson conceded: "It was pretty hilarious. I do feel gypped though, because I never met him and I'm a huge fan."
When the singer's wish finally came true, it seems that the interaction was worth the wait. Before a commercial break during the broadcast of the Globes, Carell and Clarkson were filmed having an animated — and seemingly pain-free! — conversation.
Carell wasn't the only star Clarkson got to meet at the January 7 ceremony. After chatting up Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet outside the event, the singer spotted Meryl Streep and fan-girled out pretty hardcore. Upon spotting her silver-screen idol, Clarkson shouted: “Oh, my God, can I meet you? I’m such a fan!”
Seacrest introduced the two talented ladies, who held hands and exchanged a warm hug as they chatted it up. It sounds like a dream night all around for Clarkson!
