Jax Taylor Explains Why He Told Tom and Katie to "Pump the Brakes a Little Bit" Before the Wedding
The #PumpRules pal breaks down the advice he gave after that memorable trip to New Orleans.
Tom Schwartz and Katie Maloney-Schwartz faced just a bit of drama weeks before they were scheduled to get married. Who could forget the flurry of allegations that flew during that bachelor-bachelorette trip to New Orleans? But when they landed back in L.A., Lisa Vanderpump gave them the advice they needed to hear in order to get back on track. Turns out there was another pal, Jax Taylor, who also wanted to help the couple work through their issues — even if it meant slowing down their journey to "I do."
"People [say] 'You were really adamant about saying maybe you shouldn't get married.' I wasn't saying 'Don't get married' because I don't like Katie — I love Katie and I love Tom," the Vanderpump Rules pal recently told The Daily Dish. "[I added,] 'But I also think maybe you should pump the brakes a little bit. You pushed this wedding together in six months. Most people stay engaged for a year, year-and-a-half, sometimes two years. She's getting pressure from everybody. You guys are arguing all the time; maybe you should ease off a bit and maybe take some time and think about it.'"
In the end, the couple walked down the aisle last August. But not before Jax gave his longtime pal, Tom, some advice on how to deal with their relationship in the future. "I'm kind of the worst person to give advice when it comes to marriage or relationships, but I do have good advice though, I do. I do give good advice, I just don't take it," he said, before sharing what he told Tom. "Ninety-five, maybe 98 percent of the reason why they fight is because of Stassi [and] Kristen putting their two cents into their relationship," he explained. "You know, it's like he's not just dating Katie; he's dating Stassi and Kristen as well. And it's taking a toll on their relationship."
Still, Jax admits that sometimes Tom didn't always handle the issues in their relationship the best way. "Schwartz, he just lets it roll off his back," he said. "As you can see, I always say he Febreezes the situation. He likes to sweep everything under the rug and after a while that rug just becomes a huge hill. [It's] like, 'Dude, you got to stick up for yourself, say something because this is not right.' And he gets himself into trouble sometimes, too. Sometimes he doesn't have Katie's back and that gets him in trouble. But he's a big boy. He can handle himself, but there's sometimes you just got to be like, 'Listen, man, you go to do this. You got to do that' because he just doesn't want to deal with situations."
