This Is NeNe Leakes’ Broadway Advice for Kandi Burruss
From one Matron Mama Morton to another.
Before NeNe Leakes took the stage back in 2015 to play Matron Mama Morton in Chicago on Broadway, she looked no further than her BFF, Tamar Braxton, to get some advice on what to do. "Tamar and I definitely talked about me being Mama Morton [like], 'Should I do it? Should I not do it?' [because the role] was going to [have] a solo, then there was going to be a duet and things like that," she said. "We talked about [it]," she shared with The Daily Dish at the time. Well, it's now Kandi Burruss' turn to play the iconic role.
And with that in mind, we recently chatted with NeNe, who offered up her expert tips to Kandi on how to survive her time on the Great White Way. "Broadway's a different type of stage. Every single day and you have to be on," she said. "Every day. It's like, oh my gosh, girl! And the audience is great cause they give you so much energy and they're great. They're there to support you."
Of course, NeNe got a little more specific about how she was able to stay balanced during her time in the show, which she shared in the video above.
As for what makes Mama Morton tick, well, NeNe shared with us back in 2015 that this was her interpretation of the role: "Mama Morton does have a big heart, but she's really not the one to be messed with, though. But she'll definitely make a lot of connections for you — as long as you give her 50 or 100 bucks."
Got it, Kandi? You can catch The Real Housewives of Atlanta singer in the show January 15 through March 11 at the Ambassador Theatre in New York City.
Kandi even offered up a sneak peek at her look to fans on Instagram, in case you can't make it to the show.
