Julie Goldman: From 'People's Couch' to 'Mindy Project'
The comedian scores a cameo role on Mindy Kaling's hit show.
Need a little more Julie Goldman in your life? Then Mindy Kaling has your back. One of the star commentators on The People's Couch has just appeared on Kaling's FOX sitcom, The Mindy Project.
The People's Couch funnylady played the love interest of Niecy Nash, as Dr. Jean Fishman, on this week's episode. Julie is her wife, named Deb-Deb, who, over the course of the episode, is a bit upset by Jean's new-found friendship with Dr. Mindy.
"Minday was super nice and a little shy and very connected to her cast and crew," Julie tells the Dish of doing the show. "The entire production could not have been nicer and open and fun. The revelation for me was working with Niecy Nash who was so pretty and kind and hilarious."
As for making a move from a reality show to a scripted one, Julie says there were subtle differences. "A scripted show is more regimented and you know you have to get to point A to Point B. What was awesome about the Mindy show was how they were very flexible and cool about a classy amount of improv. That's really what I love. It also allows everyone to play and laugh and have fun and also keeps things tight and on track."
Now, Julie is set to continue doing the People's Couch. So does she expect some newfound respect from her co-stars? "Hopefully they say - GOD DAMN she isn't nearly as manly as they say," Julie jokes. "I don't know. If any of the Couchers got to do anything that makes them happy or furthers their dream I would say. Awesome. Mazel Tov. And WERK BITCH."
