Josh and Heather Altman are "So Excited" to Welcome Their Baby Girl
"I can't wait to have my own mini me, my own built-in bestie," says the #MDLLA mom-to-be.
ICYMI: It's a girl for Josh Altman and Heather Bilyeu Altman, who recently confirmed to The Daily Dish that they are expecting their first child together. The news of their growing family comes less than six months after they said "I do" in front of family and friends in Aspen last April. Now we are getting the scoop from the Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles parents-to-be themselves about how they learned of their pregnancy, and how they are preparing to welcome the tot into the world. The couple opened up about their future role as parents, via email, to The Daily Dish.
For now, the rest of the MDLLA crew has some time to get their congratulatory gifts in order. The couple joked, "The announcement just hit so we will give our fellow MDLLA agents a break for not calling just yet..."
How did you find out about the pregnancy? How surprised were you?
Josh: Heather was in LA. Josh was in Miami for a speech. It was a week before we were leaving for our honeymoon. Heather was about six days late and was emptying her bladder every 10 minutes. Heather decided to take a pregnancy test at home by herself but not really thinking she was pregnant. It came back positive and couldn't believe it so took another. Heather was shocked!
Heather: I thought, I want to tell him in person, I need to wait and then 20 seconds later dialed Josh on the beach in Miami and sent him a pic of the tests. Josh thought it was a joke. And I said no really we are pregnant! Josh flew home early the next day to celebrate!
Of the two of you, who was more surprised?
Josh: Both of us were definitely surprised, but Heather was more surprised!
How are you prepping to welcome the baby?
Heather: We just entered second trimester and found out the sex, so now the fun begins! We are researching names, nursery decor, baby proofing companies, baby shower ideas, buying clothes and shoes, searching for baby nurse, researching classes, and labor methods. I mean the list goes on and on. There is so much to do and not enough time.
Are you excited that the baby is a little girl? Did the sex of the baby matter at all?
Heather: We are so excited about having a baby girl! For the first 11 weeks, we were sure it was a boy because I was carrying low. I was SO hungry, like could not stop eating, craving Mexican food and Josh is an alpha and we just thought it was going to a boy, the entire family did. Our guts just told us BOY. So finding out it was a girl was a complete surprise and an amazing one at that! My mom and I are very close and I was her mini me — I walked, talked and dressed just like her and I can't wait to have my own mini me, my own built-in bestie. Josh is so excited to have a daughter. He is going to spoil her rotten.
How did your families react?
Heather: Our families are so excited. [Josh's parents] Judi and Alan are ecstatic! This will be their first grandchild and first girl in the family! I have one nephew who just turned 4 so my mom is an experienced grandmother...lol! But she is so excited to have a granddaughter and go shopping for cute little girly pink things.
Have you thought about names?
Heather: Again, we were so sure we were having a boy that we even settled on a boy's name. We are back to the drawing board for a girl's name. We have narrowed down to about 10 so far but are not sharing just yet. We want something that is pretty, not super common but also not too unique and that can be turned into a cute nickname easily. We can't tell you the names but we can tell you that we are considering as middle names: Sidney, Josh's grandfathers, and Kerry, my father who recently passed as a middle name. They are unisex names from great men who played such important roles in our life and don't get to be with us to meet our growing family. Will keep you posted on progress!
How was your honeymoon? What's been the highlight of married life so far (besides the awesome baby news)?
Heather: Like we said earlier, we found out about a week before the honeymoon that we were pregnant which is good and bad news... haha. We went to the South of France and started our trip off in St. Tropez. I had to forgo the amazing rose, yummy cheeses and meats, but Josh thoroughly enjoyed for the both of us. About five days into the honeymoon, my morning sickness kicked into full effect - from morning until night time. The thought of food made me sick! I was stuck in the hotel room for the remainder of the honeymoon but made Josh go out and sight see and lounge at the beach so one of us could say we did something. Married life has been amazing! I've never been more in love! People say it doesn't change when you get married, but we completely disagree. Marriage has brought us even closer and created this bond that is incredible. This is your person for life, they have your back no matter what, your best friend, your everything. And now adding a child to the mix, we are just over the moon. Life could not get any better. We are blessed.
