Scheana Shay's New Boyfriend Robert Valletta Is Actually an Old Flame

Scheana Shay ended 2016 on a sad note when she and Mike Shay announced their plans to divorce at the end of November. But then a new year seemed to give birth to a whole new Scheana as she started a new relationship with Robert Valletta. 

Though this may seem like a whirlwind romance to some, Scheana recently told The Daily Dish that she and Rob go way back. "Although this is a new relationship to everyone else, he's actually someone who I dated before. So he's been in my life for over a decade. We dated in 2006. It wasn't anything that ever got super serious," Scheana explained. "But at the time, I was 21, I wasn't ready for anything serious, and I'm like, this is the guy you marry. This is the end guy. This isn't a guy I want to date when I'm 21 and single for the first time in my life." 

Over the next 10 years, the two dated on-and-off, but mostly, when Rob was taken, Scheana was single, and vice versa. Rob was even the last person Scheana dated before she began her relationship with Shay. "Once I started dating Shay, I was like, 'This is it for me,'" she said. "Someone from back home, someone from high school, someone I've been friends with for so long, just everything about it felt right until it wasn't."

So after Scheana and Shay decided to call it quits last November, she reached out to Rob, and he invited her to Christmas and New Year's Eve parties at his house. "And then after New Year's Eve, it just felt right. And it was like, 10 years later, finally we're giving this a real shot," Scheana gushed. "So it's new, but it's not. And it feels like it's been forever for us to get to this point. And we are taking things at a turtle speed, which I would prefer to go a little faster, but he thinks I still need a little time to process the last six-and-a-half years of my life, which he's right, because I tend to sweep things under the rug."  

Still, there is something about Scheana's relationship with Rob that isn't the same this time around. "But with this relationship, I'm approaching it in a different way where if one thing is bothering me, I'm gonna say it right away," Scheana explained. "I don't want to sweep things under the rug and let things pile up and then there's some big blow-up fight when it was just a simple conversation."
