Heather and Terry Dubrow's Love Story Will Make You Feel Warm and Fuzzy All Over
The #RHOC actress reveals how she and her husband first met, as well as her first impression of the doctor.
After two weeks' worth of episodes featuring some major comments made about the Brooks Ayers' cancer controversy, Heather Dubrow's podcast took a romantic turn in its latest episode. The Real Housewives of Orange County actress revealed how she and husband Terry Dubrow first met, and their love story is sure to make you feel warm and fuzzy all over.
When Heather was 27 years old, she asked the boyfriend of a friend, who was a transplant surgeon, if he knew any Jewish doctors that he could introduce her to. Lo and behold, Heather soon found herself on a double date with Terry. "He wasn't really my type, but you know, I was like, 'We'll see,'" Heather said during the Tuesday installment of Heather Dubrow's World.
Heather described the then-37-year-old Terry as having "dark hair, [he] didn't dress well, [and,] you know, needed help as most men do." On Heather's part, it wasn't love at first sight since she felt that Terry came off as condescending, and she didn't like that he drove a flashy Porsche and didn't really have the same sort of appetite for hearty food and drinks as she did.
But when Heather and Terry spoke on the phone, she felt completely different about him. "On the phone, I was, like, in love," Heather said. "But then we'd hang out and I'd go, 'Yeah, I don't know.'"
A phone call from Terry to Heather after memorable goodnight kiss was the turning point in their relationship. "He goes, 'You know what kissing you is like?' And I said, 'What?' 'You know how you're a kid, and you wake up on Saturday morning, and you realize you don't have to go to school, and you turn over, and you find that amazing place in the pillow again? That's what it's like to kiss you,'" Heather recounted.
Visiting Terry at his plastic surgery practice in Newport Beach also helped Heather see her future hubby in a more romantic light. "To me the sexiest thing in the whole world is seeing someone in their element, you know, seeing him in like scrubs and there's, like, needles flying, and he's walking around, and he's in command of the place," Heather explained. "It was a turn-on. It was sexy as hell."
That night, Terry took Heather out to dinner and ordered some real food and a real cocktail. He then invited Heather to join him on a weekend getaway to San Francisco and Napa Valley. "From the moment I saw him at the airport, it was over. I knew I was gonna marry him," Heather said. "It was like we were a married couple. It's like, we saw each other, smiled, gave each other a kiss, and it was magical, and it was done."
The two were married in 1999, and are still going strong — RHOC drama and all.
