Gwyneth Paltrow's Halloween Costume Gave a Subtle Nod to Brad Pitt
The costume references a famous '90s flick — and contains a spoiler.
Gwyneth Paltrow doesn't do cutesy Halloween costumes. To celebrate the spooky holiday, the actress and Goop mogul hit the town with her current beau Brad Falchuk — and the pair wore a couple's costume inspired by a dark, '90s crime thriller that stars another Brad.
Channeling Kevin Spacey's serial-killer character in the 1995 flick Se7en, which also stars Brad Pitt (Paltrow's ex), Falchuk wore an orange jumpsuit and comfy sneakers. Paltrow's look was a bit harder to pull off. The mom of two kept things simple in the fashion department, opting for a black blazer worn over a crisp white shirt. But she topped the costume off with a cardboard box that opened to reveal a shocked expression on her face.
If you haven't seen Se7en — and aren't afraid of a spoiler — scroll down to see exactly which famous scene Paltrow's costume referenced. But first, take a peek at the getup that almost broke the Internet:
Ready for that spoiler? In the '90s flick, Paltrow plays the wife of Pitt's character, Detective Mills. Throughout the film, Detective Mills pursues the aforementioned serial killer. Called John Doe, Spacey's character commits seven grisly murders, and each of his crimes are inspired by one of the deadly sins. As it turns out, Detective Mills' own wife is the serial killer's final conquest. And at the end of the movie, the killer delivers a box containing Paltrow's head to her horrified husband.
