Jimmy Fallon Opens the 2017 Golden Globes with a Star-Studded La La Land Spoof
The late night host hilariously honored this year's buzziest movies and TV shows — in song!
The 2017 Golden Globe Awards kicked off with a bang — or should we say a song? Host Jimmy Fallon opened the show with a vibrant musical number parodying Globes nominee La La Land.
Just like La La Land, the Golden Globes opened with a Los Angeles traffic jam, but this time limos lined up outside the awards ceremony carrying passengers like Jimmy and some of the awards show's buzziest nominees this year, including Nicole Kidman, Amy Adams, Sarah Paulson, Sterling K. Brown, Courtney B. Vance, John Travolta, Evan Rachel Wood, and Rami Malek. The opening was also packed with gags for TV lovers, such as Kit Harington waking up in his limo just as his character Jon Snow did last season of Game of Thrones, as well as Millie Bobby Brown rapping with the rest of the Stranger Things kids. The opening even treated us to the comforting thought that we could live in a world where Barb lives with a colorful synchronized swimming routine. See, swimming pools aren't so bad!
The opening kept the La La Land homage going by switching gears to showing Jimmy at the piano a la Ryan Gosling's Sebastian character, playing one of the film's melancholic yet jazzy tunes. As it turns out, Jimmy has an admirer in another Ryan nominated this year, Ryan Reynolds, who's shown attentively sitting on the piano.
However, we all know that Jimmy has eyes for only one man in the entertainment biz. Jimmy pushed Tina Fey out of the way to reunite with his perennial bromance partner Justin Timberlake. The two then danced on the stars, as Sebastian and Mia (Emma Stone) do in La La Land, before heading into the Golden Globes ceremony.
The moment was reminiscent of the opening of the 2010 Emmy Awards in which the late night host kicked off the ceremony with a tunes-filled and TV-tastic spoof of Glee in which he was also joined by Tina, Jon Hamm, and Joel McHale. Clearly, his Golden Globes opening number provided another memorable music moment for Jimmy.
