Donny Deutsch Wants to Save Your Relationship
The keys to success: honesty, laughter, and maybe some porn.
Donny Deutsch is a major media player, a successful advertising titan, and a trusted voice in the business world. But most importantly -- for our purposes, anyway -- he's a "guy who loves women." So who better to serve up advice on Bravo's Love Calling than Donny?
Donny took over Bravo recently to field your burning questions on love, relationships, sex, and the delicate chemistry that drives all three. Now with Valentine's Day fast approaching, meet the man offering to "take you inside the mind of a man," then check out his essential advice in our Love Calling clips.
Q: I think some people might be surprised at how knowledgeable you are about relationships. What's your professional or personal experience with giving love advice?
A: My main credential is that I'm a guy - a guy who loves women, has three beautiful daughters and been married and divorced twice. I've have tons of great relationships with women and certainly have made my share of mistakes. My best friend is a woman and most of the partners at my advertising agency have been women. I actually think women are the superior sex and I wrote an entire chapter about this in one of my books. But the mistake women make is they go to their girlfriends to get advice on their relationships when they should be going to a guy - a guy like me who's been there/done that and will take them inside the mind of a man.
Q: Can you walk us through your career trajectory a bit — from advertising mogul to here...
A: I've spent most of my career building a multi-billion dollar advertising agency. The last six years, I've been a TV personality most notably hosting the business motivational show The Big Idea on CNBC where I gave advice to budding entrepreneurs. I love helping people and giving advice and now I'm doing it to help people in their relationships.
Q: What is the No. 1 question you get about love and relationships?
A: How do I know if I can trust my man?
Q: What is the best advice you can give people?
A: Trust your gut and be very open, honest and direct with yourself and your partner about your own needs.
Q: What are the biggest mistakes people make in relationships?
A: They don't say what they need and want, and they expect the other person to figure it out. People aren't mind readers.
Q: Anything you'd like to share about your own personal relationships? :)
A: Hey, I've made my share of mistakes, but I love where I am now and I think my insight is going to help others.
Q: What do you look for in a mate? And how has your taste changed since your 20s?
A: More than ever, I look for someone who can make me laugh. Also I'm a dad and that affects every decision I make.
Q: What celebrity couples do you think are solid?
A: I love Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. They've clearly done it their own way, on their own terms and they seem to have a wonderful life-long partnership.
Q: Who is your favorite Housewife and why?
A: The New Jersey Housewives...they've got a little street in them!!
Q: Valentine's Day is coming up — what's the best way to celebrate?
A: I'm fairly old school, so I'd say a great dinner.
