Cynthia Bailey Thinks Everyone Should Go on a "Weave Break" — Including Her Co-Stars
The #RHOA model shares tips for maintaining healthy hair.
Ever since Cynthia Bailey went on a "weave break" at the end of October, she has been flaunting her natural hair all over Instragram. But this isn't the first time The Real Housewives of Atlanta model has gone au naturel with her locks. In fact, a periodic "weave break" is one way Cynthia stays looking fabulous. "There’s real hair underneath both [extensions and wigs] that has to be taken care of, so I take weave breaks. I usually try to take them for at least a month, ideally even three months is great," Cynthia told The Daily Dish in the clip, above. "During those months, I really just try to work with wigs, pop them on, take them off."
Cynthia said taking a "weave break" is essential for keeping her hair looking and feeling healthy. "I think it’s great to just give your own hair a break because at the end of this journey, I would like to have some actual hair on my head should I not want to wear a weave or a wig," Cynthia said. "When your hair’s great, you actually have more options with your extensions because everything just looks healthy and it blends better. I’m very pro-weave break. I plan on being on it for as long as I can commit to it with my schedule."
As far as how you should take care of your hair during your "weave break," Cynthia says keep it simple. She tries to wash and deep condition her hair at least two to three times a week and is a fan of using leave-in conditioners. "I really try to take the time to just nurture and just bring my hair back, because it gets really kind of weighed down and kind of thinned out with the weave and even just being braided all the time. So it just has to be out to get back to where it needs to be. So just combing it and brushing it, just stuff that you used to do is great for your hair to revive itself. It just needs to be revived. That’s what I do," Cynthia said. "I try not to do so much to it. I usually just keep it back in a ponytail. I don’t really put a lot of heat on it. I don’t suggest on African-American hair using a lot of heat when you don’t have to. Just kind of let it be natural as much as you can."
Cynthia even hopes her RHOA castmates follow her lead. "Since most of us are between extensions and wigs half of the time, I think all the ladies could benefit from a weave break, absolutely," she said.
