Jennifer Lopez Talks Nick Jonas in ‘Bye Bye Birdie’

Jennifer Lopez is set to star in NBC's next live musical Bye Bye Birdie, and we are counting down the days until she takes the stage. J.Lo will take on the iconic role of Rosie Alvarez, the smart and sexy secretary and girlfriend of music agent Albert Peterson.

How to Watch

Tune in to WWHL on Bravo Sunday through Thursday and next day on Peacock. Catch up on the Bravo App.

Unfortunately, the rest of the new Bye Bye Birdie cast hasn't been announced yet, but Jennifer's comments on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen have us wondering if we could see one major star join her in having a rockin' good time. One WWHL caller asked if anyone else had been cast in the show, specifically Nick Jonas, who she thought would make a perfect teenage heartthrob Conrad Birdie. "His name has come up, just so you know. We're talking about a lot of different people right now. We're not at the stage where we're actually casting," Jennifer said. "But all the producers and the network were all talking about our dream list, and he was definitely one of the people on the list."

That WWHL caller and J.Lo aren't the only ones who want to see this Jo Bro in Bye Bye Birdie. His name has also been dropped as the perfect person to play Birdie in articles about the upcoming production. We mean, he did play the very Birdie-esque character of Link Larkin in a 2011 production of Hairspray at the Hollywood Bowl, so we can't argue with that!

Nick was also spotted catching up with Neil Meron and Craig Zadan, the producers of Bye Bye Birdie, last December. We wonder what they were talking about?

Jennifer will also serve as executive producer on Bye Bye Birdie. Harvey Fierstein will adapt the show's book for TV, and it was announced earlier this month that Jerry Mitchell and Alex Rudzinski have signed on to direct, according to Deadline.

On WWHL, Andy Cohen also asked Jennifer if she was more excited or scared about performing live in Bye Bye Birdie. "Well, I perform live all the time, so I love it," she gushed. "And this is a great role for me, you know what I mean? So I'm excited, and I love Bye Bye Birdie. I've been watching it with my mom since [I was] little. I even have a little piece of Bye Bye Birdie in my show in Vegas. Yes, I do. I have a tiny bit of 'Got a Lot of Livin'' because I love that song, and it kind of goes with the whole section."

J.Lo also weighed in on another buzzy live performance, Lady Gaga's Super Bowl Halftime Show, on WWHL. Get her take on the concert, below.
