Captain Sandy Tells Conrad Empson He Will "Probably Never Make It"

Whoa. We did not see this confrontation at the Below Deck Mediterranean Season 3 reunion coming.

During the night, which was chock-full of surprises, Captain Sandy Yawn provided one of the most jaw-dropping moments when she addressed Conrad Empson's work this season (clip above). "Conrad just didn't do his job. You know, every time I looked up, he was like a little puppy behind Hannah [Ferrier]," she said during the reunion. "That's your mistake is that you actually think that you could call the shots. And as a 23-year-old bosun that's come from a private boat to a charter boat, you've got a lot to learn. And you start with listening to authority and checking in with the captain to find out what's next. You don't decide to go smoke on the bow when you decide you want a cigarette on a superyacht in the middle of the Med. It doesn't happen. And that's why you will probably never make it."

Conrad seemed confused by Captain Sandy's comments during the reunion. Though it seemed as if her comments had left him practically speechless, he did manage to refute her claims that he was incompetent and that he did not respect her authority on the boat.

The bosun took to Twitter as the reunion aired to further address Captain Sandy's claims. "If your only problem with me was smoking you would have spoken to me during the season not on national TV," Conrad tweeted. "You travel around the country doing motivational speaking, but tell me I’m going nowhere in front of millions. Practise what you preach."

Conrad said he was just as surprised as the rest of us to see the usually even-keeled Captain Sandy let out her anger and frustration with the bosun at the reunion. "I was shocked when I sat there," he tweeted. "Lost for words."

But Conrad also agreed with fans that there may have been some truth to what Captain Sandy said during the reunion. "I don’t dispute that, it’s more the way she did it, how it was done," he shared on Twitter.

And perhaps some of what Captain Sandy said has stuck with Conrad. He revealed on Twitter that he has quit smoking, and hasn't had a cigarette in a month. Hopefully, that means Conrad can avoid any more fights over 50 Euros in the future, too.

Despite this heated moment at the reunion, Captain Sandy and Conrad seemed to end on good terms. Captain Sandy told Conrad that she wished him "all the best in life," and at the end of the sit-down, she reiterated that her criticism was "definitely not personal." "What I admired about you when you came on the boat is you talked about you didn't want to be in yachting, that you wanted to do what your father did. You want to work in yachting to make enough money to go out and buy houses and renovate them, and that, to me, is wow, he has a plan," she said. "At 23, that's amazing."
