That Oprah Winfrey Golden Globes Moment Had Mindy Kaling Buzzing for a Different Reason
The actress' message was directed at Reese Witherspoon.
One of the biggest and most powerful moments of the 2018 Golden Globes came courtesy of Oprah Winfrey and her empowering speech after she took the stage to accept the Cecil B. Demille Award. (It was so major that there's chatter she could be running for president.)
The actress and TV personality used the moment to raise awareness about the social issues facing Hollywood and society today. In part, she shared, “I want all the girls watching to know a new day is on the horizon. And when that new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure they are the leaders to take us to the time where nobody has to say ‘me too’ again.”
And while Oprah was one of the many superstars who used the night to shed a light on important issues, like the Time's Up movement, in the wake of the sexual misconduct allegations that rocked Hollywood these past few months, Mindy Kaling did notice something interesting about Reese Witherspoon's introduction of their A Wrinkle in Time co-star.
When Reese spoke about Oprah, she recalled: “I got to work with Oprah on our movie, A Wrinkle in Time, where we spent four hours in the makeup chair almost every day." Well, Mindy wanted to make it known that she, too, was there.
