Millie Bobby Brown: Shaving My Head "Was the Most Empowering Moment of My Whole Life"
The Stranger Things actress relived her most dramatic hair move.
Millie Bobby Brown's braided hairstyle at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards had fans speculating about a hidden meaning (did the two lines in her 'do nod to her Stranger Things character, Eleven?) But, while pop culture watchers cook up theories, the young actress has already moved on to ruminating about an even bolder look.
On January 15, Brown took to Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes throwback video of the time she shaved her head for her role in Stranger Things. Though this dramatic chop would terrify many people, 13-year-old actress instead felt a surge of empowerment.
"The day I shaved my head was the most empowering moment of my whole life," the star shared. "The last strand of hair cut off was the moment my whole face was on show and I couldn’t hide behind my hair like I used to."
Not only did the buzz cut make the star more vulnerable — it also brought another famously badass actress to mind. In her caption, Brown continued: "The only image I had in my head about what I could possibly look like is Charlize Theron in [Mad Max.]"
Of course, in the end Brown looked like no one but herself as the Stranger Things character that quickly became world famous.
And now, the actress is inspiring other young girls with her fierce and unapologetic attitude. "As I looked at myself and couldn’t see my old self, I realized that now I have a job to do and that is to inspire other girls that your image or exterior part is not what I think is important," she wrote. "What I find important is caring, loving and inspiring other girls."
