Lorde Has a Comforting Message for Fellow Acne Sufferers
If you're struggling with breakouts, Lorde wants you to know that you're not alone.
Only Lorde could turn acne light therapy into mood lighting. The pop singer turned her phone camera on during her acne treatment with bacteria-zapping blue and red lights, and filmed a series of Instagram Stories throughout the whole thing. "Acne light with the magical tones," she wrote as a caption.
She didn't stop there: as Allure notes, Lorde filmed an intimate video expressing the frustrations she's had during her years-long attempt to achieve clear skin. Her monologue will be so relatable to anyone who has struggled with breakouts.
"For real though, acne sucks," she says. "You know what also sucks? When you’ve had acne for years and years and years, done all the drugs, tried all the things, and people are still like, 'You know what worked for me, is moisturizing!"
Sometimes, that basic advice just wears on you, when you've tried everything and still have acne — especially when it's coming from people who have like, a single zit. Lorde mimicked what people tell her: "Make a mask out of honey, greek yogurt, and avocado! All you need to do is buy an apricot scrub! Coconut oil, the secret is coconut oil!" The very worst one, of course, is when people think you are just dirty. Do you wash your face?' It’s like 'Yes, I wash my face! I’m just genetically cursed."
Between Lorde and Kendall Jenner, it's awesome that celebs are willing to be honest about dealing with acne — because sometimes it seems like everyone on Instagram or magazine covers has perfect skin. If you're struggling with breakouts, Lorde wants you to know that you're not alone. Her message to fellow acne sufferers ends on a comforting note. She says in the video: "For everyone out there who’s got bad skin — and actual bad skin, not just the kind of bad skin you can just use a fancy cream for a few days and it’ll all get better — I feel your pain. We’ll get there, we will, I promise."
