What Inspired Kim Zolciak-Biermann to Start a Skincare Line?
Get the scoop from the #DontBeTardy mom herself.
With folks like Vicki Gunvalson quickly becoming fans of her recently-launched skincare line, it's clear that Kim Zolciak-Biermann has put in the work to make sure that her Kashmere collection lives up to her standards. In fact, Kim used her own obsession for beauty products as the foundation for going into the skincare industry.
"I’ve always been obsessed with skincare. It’s like I have a CVS in my house. When we travel, I have an entire suitcase just for my beauty products," the Don't Be Tardy mom told Us Weekly. In addition to her own love for beauty, her health scare last fall also prompted her to launch the line. “It was like someone lit a fire under my ass. I realized I needed to do everything I wanted to do, so I made the time.”
From there, she went to work to launch the brand, which she worked on with 310 Nutrition co-founder Tim Sharif. “I started Kashmere from the ground up,” she said. “I spent the time and invested the money and have been involved in every part of the process. I’ve really put my heart and soul into it.”
While she worked with beauty experts to get the formulas right, one of the products, Luxurious Skin Toning Oil, is based on her own homemade formula. “While I was pregnant with the twins, I was terrified of getting stretch marks, and even though they are hereditary, moisturizing helps. So I was always at the stove melting down and mixing oils, and I vowed one day I would sell it," she said, noting her homemade formula left stains on her clothing. “I hired an amazing team of chemists, and they took my recipe and tweaked the formula to make it a dry oil,” she says. “Now it dries within minutes and leaves you feeling silky and moisturized.”
With Kashmere available for the masses to try out for themselves, Kim is already thinking about her next beauty venture.“I always put on like six different lipsticks to get the color and consistency I want,” she said. “So I want to continue to create products that I’ve been making myself all these years and can help simplify life for people.”
Fans will get to see Kim work on the skincare line when Don't Be Tardy returns September 14 at 10/9c. In the meantime, check out some throwback photos of Kim, below.
