The 7 Most Amazing (and Dangerous!) Shoes From Paris Haute Couture Week
These heels are why models get paid to walk.
New York Fashion Week is upon us once again, bringing fascinating trends to rev up our imaginations—and pep up our closets. And as fashion insiders know, NYFW is but one component of fashion month, which features international runway shows that specialize in fantasy. Paris Fashion Week, in particular, is known for its over-the-top creations that have us asking: can anyone really pull that off IRL?
Wild makeup trends aren't the only dizzying things to come out of couture shows. Have you seen the shoes? Scroll down to peep seven of the most amazing creations to walk the runways and streets of Paris at last year's couture shows. And save the date for this year's PFW, which kicks off on September 26.
1. Atelier Versace
Donatella Versace focused on draping for her collection. The shoes had ankle straps and two-tone bows in bright candy colors. So far, so good—and cute! But things get a bit more vertiginous from here.
2. Yuima Nakazato
The Japanese fashion designer's first couture show was inspired by supernatural plants and creatures. It would take supernatural powers to stand in those!
3. Iris Van Herpen
Models stood on their own platforms at the Dutch fashion designer's show. How is that happening?
4. Lou Doillon at the Vogue Foundation Gala
At Vogue's gala, the French singer, actress and model gave her feet a Mohawk with Gucci's leather studded sandals. Beware, anyone standing nearby! These things look like they bite.
5. Guo Pei
The Chinese designer behind Rihanna's epic Met Gala look showcased dresses inspired by bygone eras, paired with gravity-defying heels. Imagine running to catch a cab in these babies.
6. Guo Pei
Vogue described these heels as "chopine-stiletto hybrids," noting that—indeed—they're not ideal for a highly mobile woman.
7. Maison Margiela
The same show that brought us yellow face paint also featured models wearing gowns—with wading boots. Talk about an unexpected pairing!
