Is Blue Eyeshadow Back to Stay?
The freshest #MetBall beauty trends
We got lost in the dresses—and the bedazzled denim—for a second there. But don't think we missed the big beauty trends on the Met Ball's red carpet. There’s a lot to discuss here, ranging from the frightening (can we possibly pull off the no-eyebrow look?) to the downright sleek. Let’s review.
1. A Pout of Darkness
Co-chair Taylor Swift was one of many celebs rocking a deep, dark lip last night. Rachel McAdams was another star with a nearly black grin. There's something gorgeously Goth about this look. And if it means Chanel's Vamp nail polish is back, paint us delighted.
2. Luminous Skin
Several stars had skin so glowing, it seemed to be made of moonlight. Kate Bosworth was perhaps the best example of this nearly reflective complexion finish. It works perfectly with last night’s silver trend, no?
3. No Eyebrows (Gulp!)
Katy Perry got the dark-lipstick memo, all right. But her near-invisible eyebrows are what really, uh, caught our eye. The style does add a pretty futuristic touch, though we can’t see ourselves going brow-less in the near future.
4. Sleek Ponytails
Hairstyles were all over the map last night, with some sporting amazingly sculptural ‘dos (Lupita, we’re looking at you) and others wearing amped up beach waves. But a trend that several starlets opted for was the sleek ponytail, shown here on Kendall Jenner.
5. The Bob
Perhaps inspired by the Met Ball hostess herself—that'd be the inimitable Anna Wintour— a sleek bob also made several appearances on the red carpet last night. Kylie Jenner’s look was a smooth example of the classic trend. Side note: thank goodness someone had a strong brow.
6. Silver Locks
Silver wasn't just the color of the night for gowns—Ciara showed up with a hairstyle to match. Grey hair has been hot for a while now, so perhaps this is the trend's 2.0 version?
7. Braided Updos
So many celebrities wore bejeweled, braided updos, the red carpet looked like a prom in a fairytale kingdom. Naturally, we’re obsessed. Well done, Allison Williams.
8. Blue Eyeshadow
Around here, we save the Bey for last. The icon’s beauty look was heavy on the blue eyeshadow, and the overall effect was smoky and mesmerizing.
