Brides, You Should All Be Wearing Fiber Optic Dresses
Anna Wintour would approve.
The Met Ball’s “white-tie tech” dress code translated into a lot of white gowns on the red carpet. And while the big event has come and gone—Bey’s probably in secret meetings about next year’s looks as we speak— wedding season is just around the corner. Brides-to-be, take note: these white looks managed to steal the show from, like, Lady Gaga.
1. Claire Danes in Zac Posen
Fine, we'll admit it: we pick favorites. We can’t stop obsessing over the fiber optic marvel that Zac Posen stitched up for Claire Danes. Imagine: you walk down the aisle by daylight. Then, you dim the lights for your grand entrance into the reception. And your guests see this. Can you handle it?
2. Karlie Kloss in Brandon Maxwell
As legend (okay, Snapchat) has it, this dress also transitions easily into an after-party look. All you need is a pair of scissors. After Kloss spilled wine on the hem of her long, sexy gown, her styling team simply chopped up the dress. And look at that—the shortened version was a perfectly edgy choice for the after-party.
3. Jennifer Hudson in H&M
Nope, that’s not a typo. Hudson's angelic look is by H&M. It’s sweetness and drama all in one—but feel free to amp up the drama with a strong purple lip. We'd take Jennifer's lead on anything, but especially on this.
4. Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace
With cutouts galore, this dress may make grandma blush. But, it’s your day. And if you want a sheer, flowing gown with studded panels and pleats, that’s your prerogative. Bonus: Your makeup artist will have an easy job. Nothing should compete with this edgy look.
5. Sarah Jessica Parker in Monse
For us, this was the sleeper hit of the Met Ball. Once we got over the sadness—the shock—of not seeing SJP in a fabulous headdress, we really began to dig this. We should all do ruffles such justice. As for the "something blue," look no farther than the shoes. They’re from SJ’s own collection.
6. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Ralph Lauren
Okay, let’s tame it down a little. This simple, figure-flattering gown is sheer perfection. We can’t imagine a more graceful look for a candlelit walk down the aisle. Just picture it, with that clutch swapped out for a bouquet of pavé roses. Now we’re talking.
7. Elle Fanning in Thakoon
Even more simple, but just as striking, Fanning's dress was custom made by Thakoon. The new-to-Instagram star explained to reporters that it was a slip dress, with a bit of added structure. Easy peasy. And, a high ponytail would be a totally refreshing bridal 'do.
