Lady Gaga Schooled Nasty Body Shamers In The Most Elegant Way
This woman is a queen.
Days after Super Bowl LI, fans are still buzzing over Lady Gaga's high-flying halftime show. We've dissected her bold beauty look—face jewelry is back, people!—and gone to sparkle heaven ogling her Versace bodysuit and boots. But where there's praise, there are trolls (welcome to the age of social media!) and not all the comments have gone the way of ooh, sparkly!
Lady Gaga wore some revealing outfits during her set, and owned the stage in a midriff-bearing jacket and teeny, crystal-flecked hot pants. She looked fabulous (fact!) but that didn't stop comments like this one from rolling in on social media. Wait for it...
"Most people that perform on such stages are in great shape, but Lady Gaga clearly needs to lose weight around the stomach area...She probably lost 20% of her fan base because she was out of shape at one of the biggest stages."
For the record, where that amazingly scientific estimate came from, there were plenty of comments that leapt to Gaga's defense. ("You looked amazing!" is the basic sentiment from hundreds of fans.)
Well, Lady Gaga herself has finally weighed in. (Pun not intended.) "I heard my body is a topic of conversation so I wanted to say, I'm proud of my body and you should be proud of yours too," she wrote on Instagram yesterday. "No matter who you are or what you do. I could give you a million reasons why you don't need to cater to anyone or anything to succeed. Be you, and be relentlessly you." The sweetness and strength of her sentiment makes us want to cheer—or, at the very least, blast Born This Way on repeat.
