Ladies and Gentlemen, This is How to Wear "Vibes"
Step one: apply blue contacts
All the action went down on the Met Ball’s red carpet last night. And, trust: we’ll get into that. But first, we have to address the Kanye West situation. It was pretty mind-blowing, and deserves to be celebrated.
In case you missed it, here's what happened: The rapper, fashion designer, and newly minted Bedazzled Denim King appeared on the carpet with wife Kim Kardashian. Kardashian told reporters she wanted to look like a “sexy, bling-y robot.” And, in a curve hugging, metallic Balmain dress—with her hair slicked back just so—she really beepin’ did. (The cool look did not go unnoticed by pint-size fashionista North West, who reportedly said: “Mommy, I need that dress” as Kim headed out the door. So kids' fashion designers, if you're reading this...)
Beside Kim, West also wore Balmain. But his ensemble was somewhat different. It consisted of ripped jeans with a tucked-in white tee, Saint Laurent boots, and that gloriously bejeweled denim jacket. Oh, and blue contact lenses. The overall effect, we must say, was improbably chic.
When a reporter asked West what inspired his look, though, he did not reply: “a sexy, bling-y cowboy.” (Nor even: “a sexy, bling-y soccer mom.”) Instead, West answered the question with a single, delightfully inexplicable word: “Vibes.” We’re so using that all day. Catch the surreal interaction here. And, for the record: Vibes, people. Vibes.
