Kim Kardashian's Look at The 2017 Met Gala Was Not What Anyone Expected
This is quite a departure for the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star.
Though sisters Kendall and Kylie were close-by (kloseby?), Kim Kardashian walked the Met Gala's red carpet solo this year. We learned earlier in the day that her famous hubby was sitting this one out, but it wasn't until Kim showed up at the famous steps that we learned what she was wearing. And our reaction, at first, was...huh.
In a departure from last year's blinged-out look (and, we might add, the skin-bearing looks she's been wearing this past month) Kim was unusually demure. Her off-the-shoulder, all-white slip dress was designed by Vivienne Westwood. The ethereal frock had a built-in accent bow.
But apart from that, Kim was absent of any ostentatious accessories. Even her shoes—simple, low sandals—showed restraint. Her beauty look was dewy and natural, and her blunt bob was perfectly on trend for the evening.
Perhaps this was Kim's take on the "Avant-Garde" style the dress code called for. When she stopped to chat with Andre Leon Talley in front of Vogue's cameras, the Selfish author revealed: "I figured everyone was going to go really over-the-top, and I just wanted to be really simple." ALT, who's never at a loss for words, described this as a "Shakesperean goddess moment."
Though it took a while to grow on us, we're kind of feeling this angelic look on Kim. And, her lack of flashy jewelry is consistent with the person Kim says she's become since the imfamous Paris robbery. When she appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show last week, Kim said: "I truly don’t know if I’d ever wear real jewelry again," after revealing that the criminals had been tracking her for two years, hoping to get their hands on Kim's jewels.
