So *This* is Why the Entire Fashion Universe Was in Cuba Last Night
Viva Coco Libre is fashion's new phrase.
Did you notice an explosion of candy-colored cars, dresses in electric hues, and shimmying models in your IG feed last night? You must follow Chanel. To showcase his Resort 2017 collection, designer (and proud cat lover) Karl Lagerfeld staged a dazzling show in Cuba. Want to pretend you were there? Here’s the lowdown
First, let’s appreciate that all the world’s fashion royalty—we’re talking Gisele Bundchen, Tilda Swinton, et al—trekked to Cuba for the show. To get to the actual presentation on Havana’s Paseo de Prado, the glitterati rode In electric-hued, vintage cars, of course.
Models to walk in the alfresco show included Kendall Jenner, Soo Joo Park, and Stella Tennant. What were they wearing, you ask? Highlights included dresses decked in vintage-car prints, denim jackets studded with bunches of Chanel pins, and a ringer tee that announces “Viva Coco Libre” in jaunty pastels. (How fast will a waitlist form for that?) All was accessorized—as well it should have been—with pearl-studded berets, spectator shoes, and fedoras trimmed in flowers.
The show’s finale was a literal dance party, with models and musicians forming the best-dressed conga line in history. And then—and then—the sea parted and Lagerfeld stepped out to take his final bow, with his adorable godson Hudson Kroenig in tow. Naturally, Lagerfeld was wearing a sequin jacket and sunglasses at night. All together, now: Viva La Karl.
