Trend Alert: Retro Glamour at Cannes
Nope, we're not talking about the '90s trend.
The 2016 Cannes Film Festival kicked off today. The star-studded event along La Croisette has a long history of glamour—this Zsa-Zsa Gabor moment pretty much says it all—and celebrities are holding up its mystique. Take a look at some of the retro styles that popped up today.
1. Anna Kendrick
In town to promote Dreamwork's Trolls, the Pitch Perfect star wore a cap-sleeve gown with a plunging neckline and a ruched waist. (A little '50s Marilyn, right?) See the frock in action during this duet between Kendrick and a very special surprise guest.
2. Kirsten Dunst
Kirsten Dunst showed up to a daytime photo call channeling a Hitchcockian beauty. She wore a sunny shirtdress by Dior Haute Couture, paired with a golden belt and Salvatore Ferragamo shoes. Speaking of Dior, the French brand just opened a new flagship store in Cannes. So, Kirsten, if you need alterations...
3. Kristen Stewart
K-Stew is in town to promote the two new films, including Woody Allen's film, Cafe Society. She turned up to the opening-night gala in a full-skirted shirt dress that also gave us vintage vibes. Sure, the sheer top gives it a very K-Stew spin, but she's a modern lady.
4. Jessica Chastain
Chastain went full-on, old-Hollywood-style glamour at the Cafe Society premiere. She wore a floor-sweeping, perfectly fitted gown by Armani, with a little icing from Piaget.
What does this teach us? Retro styles, statement necklaces, and lots of yellow are shaping up as early contenders for Cannes' biggest trends. But, like the ending of a suspensful flick, you never know what surprises are on the way (spoiler: we hear Paris Hilton is, actually, on her way.) Stay tuned as our Cannes style watch continues.
