Ashley Graham Calls Out Rihanna's Puma Show Casting
The model has one issue with Rihanna's buzzy show.
Ashley Graham attended Rihanna's over-the-top Fenty x Puma show during NYFW, and she has some constructive criticism for the pop star. The motorcycles, BMX bikers, supermodels from Duckie Thot to Adriana Lima, and X Games-inspired clothes: all that was cool, but Ashley thinks there is one important thing that Rihanna forgot.
“I was at Fenty last night, and that was an amazing show. But how dope would it have been to see some curves on the runway?” Ashley told Yahoo Style in an interview.
Then she followed that up with praise for Rihanna's casting. “It was a very diverse group of women, which was really nice,” Ashley told Yahoo Style.
As mesmerizing as Rihanna's show was, she only hired straight-size models. Will she respond to Ashley's comment, or change up her casting next year?
Other designers are paving the way for body diversity in NYFW casting. Models of all sizes walked in Christian Siriano, Chromat, Tracy Reese, and Michael Costello shows. Then there's Ashley, who's had a busy fashion week. She walked for Michael Kors, Prabul Garung, and for her own Addition Elle lingerie line.
But Ashley thinks there’s still a ways to go when it comes to changing attitudes in the fashion industry. “I think there’s some designers who might want to have curves on the runway but haven’t figured it out maybe? It’s funny to me, because I’ll look at runways and think, I’d look so great in those clothes or, I know curvy women who would look so great in those clothes,” she told Yahoo Style.
