A High Fashion Brand Just Made a $185 Paper Clip, and The Internet Can't Even
The Worldwide Web's got jokes about this.
Introducing the luxury item you never knew you needed: a $185 sterling silver Prada paper clip complete with a logo, available now at Barneys. This fancy paper clip is the latest in a string of everyday items co-opted by fashion houses into luxury items. Recently, Balenciaga sold $1,100 shopping bags and a $2,145 tote that looks suspiciously like Ikea's big blue 99 cent bag. Then there's Christopher Kane’s $30 neon cable ties and Supreme’s logo-ed fire extinguisher, The Guardian notes.
So Prada's version of this is actually a paper clip-shaped money clip, but that isn't stopping the Internet from joking about designer paper clips.
Will this Prada paper clip sell out, like Balenciaga's luxury shopper? To be fair, if you really want your hands on something Prada and don't want to drop $2,000 on a bag, the paper clip might seem downright affordable. The only cheaper things we found on Prada's website are a $100 phone case, $141 sunglasses case and $147 keyholder.
