More Answered Questions!

Hi everyone! I want to thank all of you who have submitted questions -- there have been an overwhelming number. Thankfully, the great folks at Bravo have perused them and identified some common themes that are relevant to this particular time in the show. I hope my answers can clarify some issues. Thanks!

From Greg: This has been on my mind for a week.... When Vincent's model had the accident and was replaced by a larger model, why was he not given a model closer to the size of his model? Or given a bit more time to make size adjustments? This seemed unfair unless the show was trying to keep it real. (Meaning that this could actually happen before a runway show.)

Indeed, this does happen mere moments before a runway show. We needed to replace Jia with a model from our pool of eliminations. After a model leaves the show it’s only natural for her to seek new employment, so not all of the girls are available to return. Javi was willing and able to return for us. Vincent was faced with a classic “make it work” moment.

Posted by Eric: Do you think the judges made a mistake in cutting Alison?

Made a mistake? Let me answer in this way: I would not have selected Alison to leave, but I’m not one of the judges, thankfully. I believe that her design was innovative and full of the kind of risk-taking that I applaud. But that level of risk-taking is just that, a gamble. She could have won, but, instead, she lost. Chacun a son gout: it’s a matter of taste.

It is interesting to see the creative process and how different it can be to each person and sometimes successful, sometimes not. The stress factor and how people react to it or are energized by it or paralized by it really is the wild card.

Dear Tim,

Did you not just want to smack Keith on the reunion show?! He was so infuriating! Let's see, his first defense of his cheating was that he wasn't aware of the rules. Well, that's a dumb defense considering everyone else was aware and that the rules are right in the contract. His second defense of his cheating was that the producers set him up. Again, how dumb is that?! He acknowledges that they were his books, and he wasn't supposed to have them. So why doesn't he think that it's his own darn fault? I'd have had some pity and respect for him if he would have acknowledged his mistake, but now he's just proven himself to be an unforgivable liar.

About Vincent...thanks for calling him out on all his trash talking. It was fun to see him sweat!

Barbara wrote:

The thing that bothered me about Allison's elimination is that the hair dresser talked her into the "Minnie Mouse" hairstyle. I don't know but it appeared that she really didn't have a choice as to the hair designer design. That's what made the model look stupid ... the hair.

What did you think that this batch of designers had that the previous seasons didn't, and vice versa? Is there anything or anybody you miss from the other seasons, and why?

I am so happy that Michael Knight won the $10,000. He should win this season and I feel that he will. I was surprised that Jefferey is still in the running, but oh well, he has added drama. Uli is good but Michael's better and Laura is very good with her tailoring. I can not wait till next weeks show. Go Michael...keep up the good work.

I just wanted to comment that I was quite disappointed that Ulli's dress won the last competition. I think it was her standard fare, just shorter. Not that she's not a perfectly nice person - but her clothes remind me of the mass-produced dresses on the racks at Searle - same shapeless dresses in different prints (and not such wonderful prints at that). Yes, we expect a designer to have a signature look - something that unifies and connects his or her designs. But we don't expect to see the same shape, sans tailoring, week after week. It's cookie-cutter design - not elegant, not innovative, and not beautiful either.

Suzanne Helmus wrote:

The reunion show was a bore!! It was just awful. I guess it is because the designers have been such a disappointment. There was no connection, no camaradarie between them...they didn't seem to have fun. Where's Andre? Nich? Daniel V?
I have no favorite to win as I did have in seasons one and two- I just want to see nasty Jeffrey lose but I know whatever crap he produces the judges will dance their way around him-never complimenting the clothes but coming up with excuses
for him and his "creativity". There really is no excuse for him- I guess he missed last season when Fern Michaels told the designers the importance of being nice. He is vile.
Please choose better next time. This was a weird bunch of people.

Janice wrote:

Tim: I just finished watching the reunion, didn't you want to just get up and slap Jeff? What's wrong with this guy, all that
was missing was you holding a sign up to his head and saying apologize. Vincent and Jeff would be in court just for the way they refuse to treat people like people. These two need some serious "anger management" classes. Keith dug himself deeper and deeper into the hole of "liar". Being an avid fan you clearly state what the rules are. I just wanted you to say " If you had read your contract closer instead of the books that weren't allowed, maybe you'd still be on the show. Keep up the good work!

I loved the part about you and your superfulous vocab. I don't know if I spelled that right. You do have the best word for every occasion and I am a word junkie myself. Thanks for a great show!!

I have enjoyed runway enormously over the last few years but I must let you know that you are now loosing an avid watcher hereafter. I cannot beleive you reward horible personnal behavior with further opportunity and exposure. Jeffery is a foul mouth self absorbed ill mannered low life of the absolutely worst kind. He should have been thrown off this show on several occasions and your panel constantly teetered and continued to offer this filthy scumbag second opportunities right down to the very end when he finally, rightfully, and DESERVIDLY, should have been booted off the show BUT NO! Once again you provided him with incredible opportunities, exposure, and encouragement for behavior so vile that any person with even the least amount of self respect and honor would be totally offended. I hope I speak for millions of others when I say that I am offended, and I find it reprehensible that Bravo and their team of judges could ever afford any one of Jeffery's character any assistance in making this a world where bad manners and self absortion is revered and rewarded. NO THANK YOU!!!

Christopher Ann Cowan wrote:

I can't believe Keith was so whiney and rude. He has only himself to blame. He either intentionally broke the rules; or he didn't read the contract. Whichever, it was his own fault. And whichever lapse resulted in his bringing the books, if they were returned to his room without his knowledge (unlikely), he should have reported it to the producers HIMSELF.

And then, to compound it all by walking out for several hours!

He deserved to be booted. How can PR expect anybody to follow the rules if they're not enforced? Why would you even bother to have any?

But as for Keith, instead of rising to the occasion and showing a little class by accepting responsibility, he became rude and surly. Watching his tantrum, I was embarassed for him. Too bad he doesn't have enough maturity to be embarassed for himself.

Time to man up, kid.

Thanks for answering so many of the questions I have. Just one more... Where is Stacy? I am currently watching the 1st rebroadcast of the reunion show. My opinion of almost everyone is once again confirmed. The producers are either give us the truth or choosing a lie and sticking with it. The designers, like everyone can't hide their true nature over that long of a stressful time.
Vincent turns my stomach. I'd like to hear what an anaylist would say about him!
Kieth, true to form, found a way to blame everyone but himself for his own stupid mistake. He's a typical spoiled baby and everyone who ever worked with people has seen his ilk many times.
Michael K and Nina frustrate me once again as they say when Allison saw the problem with her paper dress she should just make it work! Get real, she had 3 minutes! And no one mentioned that Vincent made a giant toilet paper roll for his poor model to try to navigate. Unbelievable. It just get's me! (no NOT off!!!!!) I really wish he had been allowed to leave when he threw his hissy fit.
I still love Robert and Kayne for being gossipy, entertaining and yet kind and considerate of people's feelings. And I still love Laura's take no prisoners style and her ability to take it as well as dish it out.
Jeffery is his own worst enemy, poor slob he'll never understand why people don't like him (Kieth and Jeffery take your pick they are basicly the same personality, break the rules then blame other people)
Michael Knight is just likeable, so is Uli. I would love to get into a discussion of design and construction, but I'll spare you.
I love the show and I hove profound respect for you.

If so who's work have you admired most and why?

Pretty much enjoyed the Q-and-A both here & on the show tonight. It's always interesting to watch footage that didn't survive the editing process. Tends to be rather revealing!! Interesting that most of the designers tended to be circumspect in picking the winner---just proves that this really is a 'crap shoot' and anyone can take it. YAY MICHAEL for winning the fan favorite---I voted to for you too! I noticed that his fashions tended to go for big bucks on the auction. That seems to indicate he will do well in the future. Carry on!!

Where did you get your education? I try to look up the words that you use so that I can understand what your saying, smile. What circle of friends do you have because truly the only thing I can understand is " Make it work."

Also, the guy that won season one said that Michael will win because he is black. I beg to differ, HE WILL win because he is talented. Fashion is one place that I believe sees color, the only color one sees is the color of clothing, like Ulis dressess. You don't know when you pick up a garment off the rack the color of the designer unless you shop like Paris Hilton.

Tim would you please ask Michael after he WINS, Project Runway if he would marry me. I am loosing weight just so I could wear his last gown he made, and yes I will wear it at our wedding. Shh, we just tell my husband.

Thanks,

I had sincerely hoped that the producers of the show would redeem themselves by addressing the Allison issue outright and admitting to a horrible lack of judgment. Especially in light of Tim's concurrence that she should not have been eliminated. I'd also hoped she would've been voted "fan favorite" as a sign of protest, but I guess I was way off there as well. This was it for me. The show has settled for "reality" as opposed to talent and I won't be watching season 4. Jeffrey should win for his guts, Michael is the sentimental favorite but they'll give it to "one note" Uli, because her clothes look the most mainstream. I don't even need to tune in. The only thing that could disillusion me further is if Laura won with the same design she's been showing all season.

Alison should have been in longer. Angela and Vincent should have been gone way earlier. Jeffrey is a jerk, and I love it. Laura is boring but I respect the hell out of her. Michael is just amazing. I have become obsessed with this show!

Too bad Tim slipped Jeffrey's name twice in the podcast. One time he should have said Keith, another time should have been Kayne.

Kimbery Clark wrote:

Tim, since you were the one who asked Angela's mother how she like her dress, or how things were going, I don't remember - which started all the sturm and drang, why don't you speak up and say that you asked here. We here there endless arguments and Darlene is constantly referred to as "difficult", but it seems you asked her a question and she answered you honestly. Why didn't you speak up and defender for the reunion show. I do not understand this, it don't care what you think of Allison as a designer, I feel she was treated rudely to the end by Laura, and Heide lauging at her. You are supposed to be the good guy? Why didn't you speak up?

I only discovered Project Runway this season, and I have been truly hooked. I would have liked to see Jeffrey eliminated because I am not impressed by his style and his nasty attitude is a definate turn off. After viewing the reunion show tonight I think that he is even more of a dick than I thought. He still could not admit that he owed Angela's mother an apology.... How does he intend to deal with clients who do not agree with him? Curse them out? What a shame that he seemed to be rewarded for his nasty disposition and for me questionable talent by making it to Fashion Week! Go MICHAEL!

Cheri wrote:

"Posted by JayJay: On the everyday woman episode, Jeffrey totally disregarded Angela's mother's feelings. Isn't this bad design protocol?

The worst."

Maybe it's just me...or maybe it's the way the show is edited, but it looked to me like Angela's mom didn't SHARE her feelings with Jeffrey until it was too late for him to make any significant changes. Sure his outburst wasn't the most diplomatic, but he isn't a mind-reader, he couldn't dismiss something that he didn't know about. She lied by ommission and then set herself up to play the victim. At least, that's what it looks like from my limited view.

Greetings, Tim-

I enjoyed watching the Reunion episode tonight, and I especially liked when they dedicated the clip to you; but they forgot to mention the word 'thesaurus'! If you don't mind, there are a few questions that I would like to ask you.

Do you cringe when you see the designers use adhesive to hold their garments together? Are there strict guidelines to what the designers may use to construct their outfits? Also, do you play any role in the judging?

Thank you!

Tim, I have not watched the "reunion" show yet! I find airing at 10pm far to late for my 5:30am rise time.
I would like to say a few things about your comments. You are such a "gentleman" which is rare today. Fashion is so subjective and that creates such passion in all of us viewers and the judges. Its much like the figure skating world that I have been involved with for many years. "The Best" is not always the favorite or the winner.
Your experience, kind words, and your thoughtful way of challenging them is why you are in charge at Parsons. I so would love my daughter, who is a budding designer, to have the input and guidance that you show these designers and the students at Parsons. If you ever have a chance to check her site out----www.rocketlovefashions.com She designs for teens and young women. A real hit, and has her designs in a boutique here. It proves that there is a place for all designers!
I have said so many times that I do not care who wins, they all win, they will all find sucess is this business! Isn't that GREAT!!
Take Care and I will look forward to next season! Just a slight warning--becareful with the editing it tends to become somewhat biased most of the time. It won't hurt the designers in the long run, however, it may hurt the show at some point.
As you say--Make it work, and Carry on!!

With Michael, you look in his eyes and you can see his toenails,
clear water all the way to the bottom. Talented icing on a genuine cake.
One note not said about Kayne, he was the most honorable on the show. He defused most heated times with notes of logic and respect. Kudos to the producers with the voice overlay of Jeff saying "it was an honor working with you" when Kayne was leaving. That showed that Jeff could express something
other notes of bitterness and ignorance to spiritual natures.
Thanks PR for all, the good, bad, and indifferent.

Hi, Since it aired, i live for Project Runway! Tim Gunn for President! I believe anyone who can design, sew bring a vision to fruition-is a gifted person. From Vincent to Jeffrey to each of the others along with them. I like to think of it as "Survivor" for designers. We should all remember that. As much as they all have their unique design talent, as is their personality. This is what makes the show so addictive. Of course there are always a few annoying characters, without them it may be dull. It's t.v. people don't be haters. I have a feeling that minus the hard to miss Tattoos, and rocker-like wear, dress him up different, people may have reacted otherwise to Jeffrey. I feel he is a contender. This doesn't really have anything to do with the show per se but after three seasons I just have to get it off my chest. What is with Michael Kors and that black jacket and black shirt. Doesn't the man own another outfit? Heidi introduces him as the Top American Designer and the guy wears the same clothes every week. He even shows up at Bryant Park in that tired get up. I understand the signature look but even Fred and Wilma Flintstone changed their animal skins on occasion.

It's hard to take him seriously when he tells the designers he wants to see something different and there he sits in the same outfit week after week. Michael, I am sure if you asked nicely Laura would be glad to make you something nice to replace that ratty jacket with.

Do us a favor Tim and get some new judges next season. I'd love to see Vera Wang come back. She has taste, style and changes her clothes.

We love you Tim, can't wait for season 4.

I am concerned about Laura's comments about Jeffrey's collection being totally done, while the other designers are rushing to finish last minute details. I think the comment is unfair. I do not like Jeffrey's creations at all, but I do believe that he is a dedicated designer who went home and worked his fingers off to complete his collection. Unlike Laura, he didn't have 5 children and a pregnancy to distract him. I know that he has a child, but I don't think this young man would allow anything to take his focus off his work. Laura needs to be set straight...there are just some people in this world who know how to get the job done.

Tim,

I LOVE PROJECT RUNWAY!!! I loved the reunion show and I especially love watching you! You add that very classy element that makes the show so appealing. My daughters and I watch faithfully every week, and I have to say that this season is by far the BEST of the lot. The judges and producers picked a superb and talented group of designers this year, as opposed to previous years, where you had nothing but drama queens left and right, who's talent was all in their own minds. I hope next season and the next group of designers are just as enjoyable and talented as this season's has been.
I have a couple of questions: How much down time do the designers get and what do they do with it? and has Heidi had her baby yet?

Amalia Jacobucci wrote:

I's like to reiterate my previous suggestion that scoring be rated so that an excellent designer like Allison should be given credit for past work and losers like Vincent who time after time turn in next to the bottom scores not linger on ( besides, he should have lost for the trash episode and should not have won the mother episode). I'm sure you all can work out a system. Also, attitude and behaviour should count--vicious Jeffrey, whacko Vincent, as well as Santino and Jay from previous years should not be allowed to psych out the other contestants with their bullying ways. One's treatment of customers and co-workers is important too in any business. "Be Nice". As annoying as Angela was she never was nasty or vicious to anyone except thse who were fist snarky to her--I.e. not only Jeffrey but most of other men.

Kathryn wrote:

The reunion episode was rather boring. As others have mentioned, there was no chemistry between this cast as there has been in previous seasons. So the dominant characters got most of the air time.
I must say that in my opinion Keith should not have been invited back. He was kicked off the show for cheating and that should have been the end of his association with Project Runway. A total loser.
Tim, a applaud your efforts to get Jeffrey to do the right thing and acknowledge that he owes Angela's mother an apology. I do question why you didn't clarify things by stating that you were the one to ask Darlene about her feelings about the dress just moments prior to Jeffrey returning to his work station. The way I saw it she was answering your question, not going behind Jeffrey's back to sabotage him. You gave him a second chance to redeem his character and he chose to mutter and mumble and shake his head.
I can't help but recall Jeffrey being in the bottom two on the very first episode. If's Stacy's dress hadn't been so poorly sewn, it is possible that Jeffrey would have been the first one out. Perhaps in hindsight, he should have been.
It was great to see Milan and to hear him speak openly about the lack of support from his family. He got to show during Olympus Fashion Week, so he must be very proud of himself.
I agree that Vincent should not have won the Everyday Woman challenge and that he should have been out with the Waste Management Recycle challenge. All in all, a total jerk and if I had to hear him say it "got me off" one more time I was going to be ill.
Michael Knight is the clear winner of the group. A classy guy whose career has only just begun.
I love Laura's clothes, but I do not have the body type to wear them. Her work is very reminiscent of Badgley Mischka to me.

I'm still not buying the whole Keith was cheating thing. The cameras role what...20 out of 24 hours? Their work was done AT Parsons, and according to previous reports people knew about the books... so assuming all this, he didn't USE the books or PR would have show an episode in which he was flipping through or using them for patterns. So if we all know he didn't use them, why not just go to him, give him a reprimand and take them? End of discussion. Why the added drama? What an insult to viewers and buyers of high end fashion.

While I enjoyed the segment on the reunion show about Tim's vocabulary, I found it disturbing that words like "consternation" and "mitigate" are regarded as so unusual and advanced. I admire Tim tremendously for his dignity, grace, taste, and integrity, and obviously he is an educated person. I would hope that designers, too, would see the importance of being well-spoken and able to communicate their ideas, both visually in their designs AND verbally in their comments and descriptions of their designs.

C.Elizabeth wrote:

Tim - You're the best thing about the show. Such class, style and I love the vocabulary. A lot of people have already made many of my comments, so I have just a couple of things I have to say.
First, I don't think Uli is as "nice" as everyone seems to think. She basically stole other designers' models 2x. And she admitted that she did so because she thought they had an advantage with them. I think she is just as cut throat as Keith and Jeffrey, just hides it better. I say this because I think the personality she worked so hard to keep up was a large part of her success. It couldn't have been the endless line of printed floats she presented.
Second, I don't like Jeffrey that much, but I think he should be cut some slack with the Angela's Mom thing. Angela and her mom are master passive aggressives. Once I saw her mom, I could tell Angela didn't fall far from that tree. When mom told Jeff "I feel like I'm going to cry" when they were just talking about the design and color of the dress, I thought "uh oh" here's another "Poor Me" manipulator. When she was in the lounge crying crocodile tears and cupping her face with her hands, I almost gagged at all the melodrama. I think Jeffrey is absolutely right -- Angela is calculating, not this innocent farm girl. For me, Angela was much harder to take than Jeff. At least, he put himself all out there.
Oh! And I loved it when Angela was talking to Tim during the jetset challenge. She twice stuck out her bottom lip in the classic little girl pout like she was fishing for sympathy. The great part -- Tim was totally unfazed and ignored it. Jeff should have treated her and her mother the same way.

Now I'm just waiting for wonderful Michael to win. I can't believe that it's almost over. What am I going to do on Wednesday nights?

Anyway, I have to agree with some people out there that Jeffrey isn't all to blame on the mom controversy. The fact that Laura defended him says a lot. The way he talked to Angela's mom was completely out of line BUT I can understand how he would blow up about her saying that to him last minute in such a high stress situation, he's human and we've all done it. I do think she played the victim a little, she was practically talking into the camera while crying.
Is PR going to get some new judges sometime? Nina is hypocritical and they both can no longer be objective. We need a fresh view!

Finally, when asked if he ever did apologize he said there was not time. Right there and then he should have looked at the camera and said he was sorry. Judging by his eyes he did seem remorseful but did not act. His Mom sure seemed sweet.

Tim,
You might remind people to keep in mind that the show is dealng with multiple personalities that include the indisputable 'artistic temperment' of some of the designers. Jeffrey was indeed rude to Angela's Mother, but consider his warmth and sentiment on Father's Day when he received the phone video of his son. Under less stressful conditions, he is probably centered somewhere between these two extremes. It was unfortuneate that he had to design for Angela's Mom, given their enmity. Santino had some difficulty also. I remember when a fashion editor said, "Always be nice." I felt it was directed to him, and as the show progressed, he made the effort to be nicer. It was a courageous move to disqualify Keith for rule-breaking; he is a brilliant designer, but overly ruthless and deserved to go. These over-the-top personalities make great programming, but let us not forget the point of the show. Who will be the next Hot Fashion Designer? My advise to those watching the show with fervor is to accept each designer for who they are. You'll sleep better at night!

I saw the reunion show last evening and I was happy that Michael won the $10,000....perhaps this makes up for Uli taking Nazri away. By the way, I am surprised no one has commented on her behavior...being an "Instigator" of bad Karma. She seems to enjoy causing trouble among the other designers then just sitting back and watching the outcome. From the beginning of the season I recall her saying that she wanted to see a fight. Then, as I watched clips where the designers are preparing for Fashion Week, she tells Jeffrey that Laura has something to say to him. What is wrong with this female? Tim and Heidi, I think she should be Auf'd for poor sportmanship!

It has been amazing to watch the show and see how the designers respond to each challenge. I love to see the differences in creative approach. Yes, there is drama...but what reality show would attract so many viewers without it?!? I would like to add that Angela's mother, Darlene, displayed classic examples of passive-aggressive behavior. I also feel that Angela is a product of a somewhat dysfunctional family dynamic. Yes, Jeffrey could have responded in a more diplomatic way, but the pressure was on, and he did have one difficult client and colleague. I cannot imagine the pressure of trying to design for a larger woman. However, I fall into that category, and may I say...I would love for designers to take note that I, personally, would love to see clothes made out of fabric that doesn't look like it belongs on lawn furniture, have watermelons where the bosoms are, but does have a few well-positioned darts! I do have a shape and it has become increasingly difficult to find tailored, flattering clothes!
Thanks so much! Tim, you are such a delight. Heidi, I don't believe get enough credit for being an intelligent woman...I enjoy your input.

Ok no huge ones anyway. I am not sure why Jeffery is being so vilified. I don't think it warrants calling him some of the names people have used on some of the posts. He had a disagreement with Angela's mom. Maybe he didn't handle it well but I don't think he really caused her to cry. I sure wouldn't have let him make me cry! I mean who cares it's a stupid dress. We all could see it was ugly. I wouldn't have liked it either, of course I have different taste and a small frame so I think I would have been much easier to work with. I mean her color choices alone made me nervous from the begining. Red, green and purple? Puke! I thought poor Jeff how the heck is he going to make anything remotely attractive given her guidelines. I think he should have tried a bit harder to make a more attractive silhouette that would have made her happy and if not too bad. I loved what Laura said about the whole situation, to paraphrase, "They were here to help us and just walk whatever we made down the runway." I love all 4 of the designers, it's hard to choose since they are all so different. I voted for Michael because to be honest he has never once said anything nasty about anyone else. I'm not saying he's perfect but I love his honesty. In the couture challegne he admitted his dress was not the best up there. I think overall he's just a decent kind person, not to mention talented. I do miss Kayne, he was always so funny and witty and hyper! I find the people who are whining saying they "speak for millions" and they are never going to watch the show again ridiculous. Not everything can go the way we'd like it to all the time. I've disagreed with some of the judges decisons from time to time on all the shows but why let that ruin a good thing? I mean who are we to judge? I'm not a top fashion designer so I have to defer to their expertise. All and all it's a wonderfull, interesting show and I find it feeds my creative side. But if you've seen the pics from FW, they make you wonder what happened to his taste level. The designs were vulger and the makeup made the models look ugly. Maybe it is just a matter of taste. Tim, do you ever feel any mistakes were made in choosing the designers who appeared on Project Runway? I know you have thousands of applicants to choose from. I have always wondered why you rejected the guy who showed the all-black dress collection for his audition. I thought he had talent, and would have chosen him over Katherine. I also wondered how Keith got chosen when he showed only menswear. I really wondered if it was true that he had never before designed a dress.

I'm also wondereing if diversity was over-emphasized. Maybe the focus needs to be on talent and originality and not diversity of style (e.g., rock-n-roll, glamour, sportswear, etc.). I'm wondering if some talented individuals were rejected because they were more mainstream in their market and not specializing in a certain niche?

I would like to say that you exemplify professionalism, good manners, and quality. Although I have watched every episode since season 1, this is the first year I have tapped into your blog, and I really enjoy it. I have two questions, both based on the reunion special. The beautiful Heidi explained the judging and scoring process. HOWEVER, there was no mention of the very clear caveat that appears in the closing credits, that openly states that there is 'input' from the producers. Does this input invalidate the judging or change the result? My second question regards professionalism, and I have addressed this issue in previous comments to you. Is there genuinely a prevailing attitude that says, for example, that it is unprofessional for Vincent to use words like amateur, but not so for Laura to use a term like 'serious ugly?' I am looking back to the first two seasons, and the ultimate winners were not only talented, they were pretty nice folks. ( I know that Jaye is way out there, but he had a compassionate, down-to-earth side.) Based on what I have seen and heard, I have very high hopes that Michael will win, given that he has both qualities.

Just watched the third season's reunion show. I got into all this very late, so missed much of these folks, and I must say, except for Robert, I didn't miss them at all.

Robert was amazing, and I still cannot see why he was aufed for that wonderful creation he made for the mom show. Yes, it was a simple tank dress, but the blouse he created to go over it still attracts me when I see it in the background of the workroom. It has differing levels, floated amazingly well on his model, is something I would wear myself, his black and red palette rocks, and most importantly, he LISTENED to what his customer wanted!!!!!

Allison was shafted. Pure and simple. She is an amazing talent. Yes, her paper dress didn't flatter her hefty model, and the Minnie Mouse hairstyle was atrocious, true, but I felt she should not have been aufed at that point. She had much more to offer than some of the others.....

Keith......what a piece of work HE is! Bitter and resentful to the very end. But I thought, given that you all could have edited to your heart's content, Klum's sweeping the controversy under the rug and dashing off to commercial break w/o achieving even any *small* measure of agreement was very poor. But then, they don't teach models to handle much of anything, do they?

Vincent.....wish I'd seen the back of him over his upset w/ the laundry. He may have paid hundreds of dollars for his garb, but in it, he still looks (and acts) like a stevedore!

Angela....handled the smidge of time she got very well and nailed Baby Jeffie to the barn door. Go, Angela! As a designer, you may be headed for the infant department of Sears, but you stood by your mom when Baby Jeffie treated her abominably.

Kayne....what can I say? I love everything he ever did, even the recycled fairy costume. His couture gown was amazing. So the stays showed....so what??? That floating skirt, the amazing bodice w/ the gorgeous off-center lacing, the fabric, the colours....it was to die for!!! Kors and Nina even admitted if he'd done it in a different fabric combination, they wouldn't have had several cows about it. He should be in the final four, and would have if he had not come from a "pageant" background. And how personable a guy! He was consistently the first one to congratulate others, was always friendly and helpful, even when Laura insisted on slamming him repeatedly (where DID she ever get the idea her commentary on *everything* was required???) and generally was a blaze of fun in an otherwise bitter wrangle of a season. I wish I could contact him and tell him how much I enjoyed him and his work. I know I'll see more of him!!!

Uli is an amazing talent. I think she'll win the final prize.

Tim, it was very interesting to learn that you consider yourself a design educator and have never been a designer. Tell me, how does one fulfill that position w/o ever having designed clothing?

I am looking forward to seeing the final four collections, and then I am bidding farewell to PR. It really has been great to see these talented folks turn out amazing designs literally overnight and w/ no budget to speak of.

It has NOT be great to see the producers tinkering w/ the outcomes, the continuing judges Kors and Nina behaving like jackasses and the guest judges floundering to make their comments mesh w/ the Big Three's. And Klum......she needs to go back to doing something she knows how to do. Whatever that might be.

Give me a real contest any day!

If he truly believe that someone put the magazines in his room, why did he not state that when he was confronted. And definitely when Keith stated he was leaving and the producer assistant showed him the door. What else was this person to do? This person works for a living, and catering the little want-to-be's is not going to get them paid. I would have said the same thing, with a little bit added. Every now and then a model doesn't show up and is replaced at the last minute. I can understand that this happens in the real world but why not give the designer some extra time when this happens? It gives all the other designers an unfair advantage -- they didn't have to scramble. Maybe when one model is replaced at the last minute they should all be replaced. This would force all the designers to scramble and put them all on the same level. It seems unfair in a competition of this type that only one designer should be given such a disadvantage and not the others without giving him/her some extra time to make up for it.

Then he sits there, glaring up at you and Heidi asking if you feel guilty for putting him off the show. When it finally sunk in that no one was going for it, he sat and sulked the rest of the show. although i keep watching, the show really has reached a new low. you should of kicked Jeffrey off ages ago. you've kept him because he adds some drama to the shows. his outfits are tacky, uninteresting, just sleazy trash. his personality is UGLY UGLY UGLY. there seems to be nothing good in him. he is a vile, angry, vindictive, back stabbing human being. you can tell he is an ugly person inside as well. milan, alison and uli, and even michael seem to be kind, loving human beings. how can we not root for them?

I have mix feelings about the reunion, I find very disturbing the way many of the "designers" acted. The one's with composture were as always, Micheal, Uli, Alisson, Robert, Malan, and others oh and the first one Aufed...gee I cannot even remember her name! Other than that, how are we suppost to choose such "designers" when they acted on a very non professional way. I was appaled by the way Vicent spoke about TIM, when of all the people on PR Tim just a sweetheart that wants the best
for all the contestants and models alike.

Is a fact that this season as been the most commented and talked about, I just wished it was all about the "craft" of each of the participants rather than their personalities, but, if they are going to act in such an innapropiate or non professional way, even to judges and TIM...there is something not right!

I hope that on the next fourth season of PR, the drama takes a back seat, and is the designs and craftmanship of the designers choosen the more important thing, and that this unaceptable behaviour of the third season would not be repeted again, just IMHO.

Tim you are really a Gem in PR, keep on the outstanding work at "making it work" and "carry on"...take care! Aileen

Project Runway is great television! It is the only "reality show" that I can stand and it's because it shows us people striving for a real goal while interacting under extraordinary conditions. Housed together, a Challenge every other day for several weeks, and the pressure to be creative and stylish - WOW!
I must admit to some sympathy for poor Jeffrey - the editing of the show does alot to take advantage of his rough edges and Angela's personality quirks must have been like fingernails on a chalkboard to him. He was out of his element with her mom's look and the added pressure of trying to do well - please his own mom by "playing nice" - and then having Angela insist upon an apology . . .I am not surprised by his defensiveness. Jeff is not a warm and fuzzy person - Angela - get over it baby.

I, also, have been an avid fan since season 1. I'm even thinking about buying the DVDs of Season 1 and 2. After reading all the other comments I may be the only one offering this suggestion. Give Keith another chance next season. Though his personality may be somewhat abrasive (certainly no more so than Jeffrey's), I do think he is incredib ly talented and loved seeing his designs each week. I saw the beautiful red gown that Michael Kors did for Heidi for the Emmys. MK should do ALL of Heidi's clothes. The garments she wears on some of the shows are awful looking and do not fit well. Thanks for putting on such an entertaining show.

I am such a fan of the show. I am so glad that there is also a forum to comment about the show. The reunion episode was great. Thank you for showing Vincent for the big-insane-baby that he is. My goodness, how he lasted on the show as long as he did is amazes me. And I think that Uli should have won the Everyday woman competition not Vincent. For pete's sake, it was her one outfit that had pants! Vincent's design was ugly, ill fitting and what is with that collar???? Since when are pilgrims fashion forward? Keith did what cheaters do, deny, deny deny, (its in the code) so no one should be surprised that he did not own up to his schemes. He was mad because he could not believe no one was fooled by his arrogant behind! Anyway, my favorite designer is Micheal and I was so happy to hear that I was not the only fan. He has real talent and is a gentleman to boot. Even though I want either Micheal or Laura to win, I am not worried about the results, because what ever Michael will do in the future will be successful, he justs need to keep growing as a designer. As for Jeffery, I am not going to hate on him, because he actually makes for good TV; not good design, just TV. His clothes are creative and butt-ugly, but at least they are not boring. And I don't get that he is mean, so much as he does what insecure people do when they know everyone else has as much talent, if not more. Oh yeah, love Uli, but ooooooh how could you take Michael's model? I love ya girl, but different model, same ole dress!!! Can't wait until the runway show.

You truy are the best part of Project Runway. May I suggest another phrase to add to the lexicon? "Courtesy counts" - it would serve as a mantra for the Keiths and Vincents and Jeffreys (oh my).

I am very disappointed with season 3. The designers choosen lack the creativity and looks that the other seasons had. This one time I don't have a favorite, that says a lot.
As far as the reunion goes:
Jeffrey should've apologize. No excuse. But I also believe that Angela "crazy looking rossettes" had a lot to do with it. Didn't like any of their desings anyways
Alison was unfairly eliminated.
Keith...needs to move on, the disqualification was fair
Uli, even though she does prints amazingly, I am tired of the same style dress
So I guess is either Laura or Michael. I think Michael has a better chance.
Heidi. OK

I think Alison was unfairly eliminated; perhaps the show will give her a 'second chance' on an upcoming season (the way they did with Daniel). I also think the judges kept Vincent in the running for as long as they did only because he was "kooky" and made for good TV. He really should have been eliminated much earlier.

Hello Mr. Gunn! I felt the need to join the millions of viewers sounding off on Runway. You sir, are indeed a breath of fresh air in the saturated reality tv era. I always get a kick out of seeing you caucus with the designers and gently nudge them into making it work. I've been watching from the beginning season and am never diappointed(except maybe when Allison was 'aufed' this year). I'm a 40+ mom in the Midwest who is by no means a fashionista, but would love to be if my enviroment and budget allowed me to glide through life looking as incredible as Heidi or Nina. I am positively addicted to Runway and the incredible talent these people have for starting with nothing but direction and creating beautiful(sometimes wacky and hideous)garments with the help of their den father, Tim-who also appears to glide through life impeccably fashionable and fabulous.
Thank you Tim for coming across so real and personable-I love that deep concentrating look over your glasses when you formulate the words to help a designer see what you see! Looking forward to the finale as well as many more seasons of Tim and the fashion forward judges.....please, please don't let them change a thing. It wouldn't be the same without the 4 originals!

A few comments from last night

Wow, Vincent is married? Gee, my mom is right, there is a lid for every pot!! Even delusional ones!!!

I don't know what people are talking when they say Tim uses big words. I have always understood everything he has said and have always thought that Tim was very articulate (uh-oh that word may be too big for alot of people). Most of the words that were used in the segment are not big words and should be familar to all. Wow...are people really that dumb??? I am worried.

Laura, I think you are fabulous, maybe because you remind me a little bit of myself (without the riding boots of course). You take no prisoners!!!

What the hey was Nina wearing last night? Is she pregnant?

Tim, I love you, you truly are a class act. I have never seen you be unfair or impartial to anyone on the show. You always give such great advice to the designers and are so supportive. I can't believe Vincent said what he did about you...again he is so delusional. Tim, you are a great mentor. If I had any design sense or talent, I would want you as my teacher.

Tim,

Didn't know the show until this season, when I became enthralled. Thanks for stating that you didn't agree with Alison's auf nor with Vincent's win -- the only real disappointment about the reunion episode was that it didn't address the role of the producers in the final decisions. Vincent's win didn't make sense to me until the episode where auf'ed winners got to come back. I'm guessing that the producers figured that the dress Vincent made for Uli's mother was as close as crazy Vincent would ever get to anything passable, because it was in no way the best garment on the runway.

Note to producers: watching delusional people like Vincent doesn't make great TV, it just makes my flesh start to crawl. watching talented designers meet challenges is why i tune in to Project Runway, and when you start jerryrigging the results, i start losing interest.

I think the only reason Jeffery is still in the final four is that he's good television, but not a good designer. He's the season three's Santino...lot's a flash, no substance. I'm rooting for both Michael and Laura, Uli has bored me to tears with her flowing, flowery prints and "I love to go to zee beach" attitude. I do think Laura is capable of giving us more than the plunging neckline, and Michael will wow is with his brillant packaging. Thanks Bravo, you're my favorite guilty pleasure!

If anyone can remember, the only reason why Jeffrey dislikes(hates) Angela is because she won the Macy's challenge over his. If his group had of won, him and Angela would be best friends today. When anyone won a challenge, he would rip on their design. He is very immature. He will also learn(the hard way) that is behavior is unacceptable and coould lose him some very important clients. Can you image him talking to Madonna or Elton John like that. I will say that he is talented and I liked most of his designs, but not everyone is into rock 'n roll. Just because you don't like his style does not mean you have no taste. That was the point that Darlene(Angela's Mom) made. He couldn't handle the truth and that he why he rudely dismissed her. Jeffrey GET OVER YOURSELF.

As for Michael Knight he has been my favorite from day one. He shows that you can be talented and nice. That why he got the $10,000.

I just saw the reunion show. After seeing Keith's behavior, I think he shouldn't have been invited to the reunion. You could see his anger and resentment in his eyes. While everyone else laughed and shared, he remained expressionless and isolated.
I was upset that Malan was kicked out so early in the show. He seemed so promising. I felt his emotions on struggling with parents who don't support your career choices and dreams.
Also, Cheers! to Laura, Angela, Micheal and the others who spoke out against the bullies of the group like Keith, Vincent and Jeffrey. It is a competition and you have to be tough so you won't get runover! Fight, fight, fight!

Hi Tim....I think you bring class to my favorite show. I too am bummed that Uli took Michael's model. It seemed a bit underhanded to do so at this point in the competition. I feel sorry of anyone who is his friend (?), if he really has any.

Loved the reunion show! If Vincent didn't want his clothes laundered, why didn't he just leave those expensive pants at home!? Glad Michael won! Can hardly wait for the final runway show!

From the previews, looks like may Jeffrey is pulling a "Keith"! Wonder who helped him?!

Hope there is a Season 4. Wouldn't it be neat to bring back a few designers that were "Auf'd" from the previous 3 seasons as the designers for Season 4! That I think would be fun.

I am so pleased Michael won the facorite designer... he never made nasty remarks about the others...real classy guy.

After Vincent says something, I usually find myself scratching my head thinking ... "uhh, did what you just say mean anything".

Like last night on the reunion show, he kept saying that "you know, it takes a certain level to reach a certain level, and I stand by that...". Thank goodness Tim responded with "I have no idea what you just said".

Does Vincent realize that he tends to say stuff that on surface may sound meaningful, but when you try to understand it you realize it was just circular words ?

And that shirt washing bit ! My my, you'd think someone on this show would realize that they need to be on good behaviour, because the world is watching. You can lose on the show and still come out ahead if you come across well (like Malan). Or you can lose on the show and be worse than a loser because of how you came across (Vincent defines this category).

It's a beautiful thing that he is so turned on by acting like a complete bafoon.

Dear Tim,

My wife thinks you're handsome. I was surprised to find out, however, that you don't design clothes yourself. Furthermore, it's not exactly true that you've never said anything personal about Vincent; in answer to a question about Vincent's so-called smarmy behavior w/C. Maladrino, your answer made clear your feelings about Vincent the person, not the designer. Vincent is nuts, for sure, but he's one of the best things on the show. More Vincent. Ditto with Jeffrey. He's a two-faced shit, but he's always good for a quip. Loved his reaction when Angela tried to make nice. 10 grand-winner Michael is the most decent of the bunch, but also the least interesting to watch. Laura was dead-on when she called Vincent delusional, but I couldn't help but roll my eyes when she said she did errands in riding pants and boots. The French and Russian Revolutions were specifically designed for elitists like her. I thought the show totally rocked. Very funny, especially Vincent's meltdown. "I told those fucks not to fluff and fold." How great was that?! And Heidi's great. But, those can't be her real breasts...?

On the reunion show it was mentioned that Malan (I think) and Daniel Franco also showed at Fashion Week which made me wonder, What are the criteria for someone to be able to show at Fashion Week? I thought one of the purposes of Project Runway was to give an aspiring designer access to such an exclusive venue to show their work. Since neither of them finished in the top 3 or 4 of their respective PR seasons, why are they allowed to show? Is it enough to just be a contestant on PR to get in? Or do you only need the money for fabric and models and time to prep?

By the way, I love the show. It's the only reality show that I haven't tired of and I'm hoping there will be a season 4.

I also totally admire Tim Gunn. I so wish I could find a man that is as intelligent, articulate and caring as he is. Does Tim have a straight twin?

I can't understand why you chose to invite Keith back on the reunion show. Hello! He cheated! Why give him more air time? And his excuses! Reminded me of the Wash, DC Mayor who was videotaped smoking crack cocaine with a woman in a hotel room. As they carried him out in handcuffs all he kept saying was, "The bitch set me up!" over and over again...So it was with Keith. His anger was in getting caught, not in his books or his actions. He did not deserve to be on the show - shame on the those who allowed it. The others earned their right.
As for the show overall, not even Heidi's smile or Tim's humor could brighten the stage. The tension was palpable, and it made for a depressing hour of television. First you have Keith resurfacing, then we had to endure more of Jeffrey's vile offerings. Why the producers thought it entertaining to "air" (no pun intended) Jeffrey "breaking wind "on national television is disgusting! I know this isn't rocket science but you would hope he had developed some level of professionalism at this point in the series. Remove those two and you had a show.

Tim, Heidi and the deigners,
You should all be congratulated for your interaction with Kieth on the reunion show. The man had a plan and it showed from the moment he walked in. He wanted to create controversy to become a victim and make everyone look bad and lose their cool. Yes he was qustioned, yes there was rebutal but it was done calmly. He lost the game he tried to play. It is sad that someone with talent feels he has to break the rules (which he mentioned he does regularly in an early episode) when his talent could have spoken for itself.
It may be a good thing to just once post the rules the designers sign on the web site. This whole thing has created curiosity about the limits the designers have to work with in.
Good luck to all in your future. It will be interesting to watch what you do after this as it has been to see past years participants.

Dear Tim,

Thank you for your insight into the inner workings on PR. I am an avid fan of the show, and I always enjoy your input on the designers' work. I watched the show and was frankly horrified by Vincent's behavior. It seems incredible to me that someone would be able to act in that manner and turn around and give an interview about how awful people are on blogs about his work. On his work, I feel that Vincent would have done himself a favor by listening and responding to the feedback given to him by the judges, you, and, yes, those pesky bloggers. His work does appear to be stuck in the 1980's and not in a good way. He would have benefitted greatly by utilizing that feedback to update his looks.

I am pleased that Michael, Uli, and Laura have made it to the finals. I am excited to see how Jeffery's collection is handled by PR producers if indeed he had help outside the boundries of the rules.

Carry on!
